to let "Turn Left" sink in, I'd like to let my pessimistic side run free in this post. Mr. Green

As I've said, I really want this two part finale to be good, and not end up as another SoD/LotTL, which tripped over itself and fell down a dozen flights of stairs.

However, I feel that all will not be well.

For starters, it's still RTD scripts we're talking about. He's not been the model of consistency with his writing.

Second, again, it's still RTD scripts we're talking about. What he has been about with his finales is the Big Bang, and, increasingly, going for massive amounts of fanwank.

Cybermen vs Daleks? It turned out pretty good, but it's still fanwank, especially with some of those lines between the two adversaries.

The Master? I'm still trying to burn that blatant Flash Gordon rip-off out of my memory.

And now, we know with these final two episodes that everything in the new series is being thrown into the mix. I'm given to wonder how or if it can even work.

Third, too much reliance on the Daleks. 4th season, 3rd time we'll see the Daleks in a finale. The Emperor, then a form of Supreme Dalek, and now Davros. Again, I'd have to say it's fanwank more than any sort of originality being brought to the show. Confused

Maybe I'm being harsh, but for as great as "Turn Left" was, and for me it was RTD's best script to date, but I'm trying to temper my expectations specifically because of past performance.

    Yeah that's the spirit!
I think that we should all convince ourselves that it's going to be rubbish then we can't help but be pleased when it's better than our expectations.
Imagine how depressed and worried we're all going to be if part one is actually any good! Twisted Evil

Well, as usual, I'm suckered in with high hopes. Call me endlessly optimistic when it comes down to the wire. And let's face it - Eccleston's finale was great - still probably the best since the relaunch, arguably, with Rose's "exit" (if we can even call it that anymore) being the next best.

Last year was, oh, interesting, yes - flawless, hell no. It was like an inverted sandwich in some ways, with the best bits on the outside - Jacobi made the first part bloody fantastic (he should've just stayed as the Master, personally), while the final episode, while still clunky overall, had some nice bits, Dobby-Doctor and "the power of words" crap, aside. I'm not a huge fan of the middle installment in "The Sound of Drums," thanks to hammy Simm's overacting in a Jim Carrey skin.

This year? God, who knows, really. Looks like everything but the kitchen sink is indeed going to be thrown in for all intents and purposes - which all at once gives it every reason to suck eggs, and every reason not to. The next 2 weeks will tell for sure! I'm both terribly excited and sick to my stomach, frankly. Laughing Out Loud

Human Biological Metacrisis = Bite Me, RTD.

the whole dalek thing is kind of logical. The Beeb would have had to obtain a licence to use the daleks from terry Nations estate, I guess it would be a little more than a packet of crisps and a bottle of coke. The licence is for 5 years so the more the beeb can use daleks the better return of their initial investment. I am suprised we havent seen the sontarans back -maybe for the gap year?

Point taken on RTD though, I have not been the biggest fan of his shows but the last couple of episodes have been little corkers! I suspect that lessons will have been learned from the season 3 finale and applied, after all just flicking through some of the tv reviews on a monday, when they do review an episode of who, it always gets a good review and nearly always comments that the production team really CARE about the show.

its an interesting question: what makes for a good season finale? a big blow out of huge cliff hanger for the next season? I think there will be something of a cliff hanger to keep people on the edge of their seats untill the gap year specials

Sorry to sound grumpy, but surly this could have been posted in the main Turn Left thread rather than starting a new one?

I'm sorry but I don't buy this at all. The Daleks are just as iconic as the Doctor (at least in the UK) and are immensely popular. I've said this in other threads before but we fans tend to forget that in this era of 'new-Who' we're actually in the minority when it comes to actual viewing figures. The majority of those 7m plus people who tune in every week just want to be entertained and they know the Daleks are the Doctor's ultimate foe, the children viewing are wanting the Daleks (mine sure do). And besides, back in the early days of 'classic-Who' the Dalek's were hardly off the screen!

I really think RTD is in a damned if you damned if you don't situation with regards to the Daleks, if we hadn't seen them since the Doctor returned to our screens, or had only seen them the once then internet fandom would be asking the question why isn't RTD using the Daleks.

    Just my two pence!

I don't mind seeing the Daleks back again. I'm just sick of seeing the Daleks always trying to take over Earth, and usually in the contemporary time. At least BW/PotW had it in the future. I have never cared for the Davros character after the first two episodes of him, but am willing to give it a chance. The new series has shown the Daleks standing on their own again which is good.

I am looking forward to the explanation of why they are still around in such force. First it was the lone Dalek fell through time, then the emperor building new ones from mankind, then the cult of skaro and genesis ark. Now what? Though in a way, it could be played up as the ultimate tragedy that the Doctor sacrificed Gallifrey for nothing as they obviously survived the Time War in droves.

Well, last I checked, all speculation was allowed, not merely that which only puts a positive spin on things. Confused

And as I said, my speculation is very much based on past experience. I'm not simply talking out of my hind-end here.

I was voicing my opinion, which, last I checked, was also still allowed, despite the many protests to the contrary. I think if I was posting/acting as a moderator, my tone would be less sarcastic and more factual (but probably just as annoying).

Calm down guys. It's not worth it!
But seriously, I thought that these threads were all about having a good chin wag even if that chin wag involves saying that we don't believe another's view point is true or that someone is just a moaning minnie!
    All opinions allowed, n'est pas?

I bet we get to actually see the big Time War finale and in the biggest ultra-secret came of all time we're gonna get Paul McGann showing up!!!!! wouldn't that be something else!

I mean sure supposedly the time war "already" happened but timey-wimey, folks, timey-wimey!

If Worzel Gummidge and the Third Doctor had a fist fight - who would win?
