| If I'm to take the BBC at face value, this will certainly contradict what most fans have been anticipating with the next full series. I would certainly be happy to see Tennant stay, but I do feel the man has done just about everything he can with the character. |

The rumors have certainly been interesting, haven't they?
RTD has stated that this break that is coming next year would've happened regardless... but it just happens to coincide with the fact that Tennant is going to do some stage work.
I do think the BBC wants him to stay, otherwise they probably would've made the move to have the Doctor regenerate and go on with a full season next year. |

| I donno about that article - because it says something like "he wants to leave but they're desperate to keep him on" and I thought it was more of a case of they had agreed to let him do some stage work and with regards to following series, hadn't actually officially asked him to stay yet. |

| I did hear him say "he has already stayed longer than he originally intended." |

I also recall early on reading that he thought he'd follow Peter Davison's theory that you shouldn't stay longer than 3 years. |

The timing on this news seems incredibly suspicious. Why start kicking this info around now, right upon the crest of a finale that suggests he's leaving, barring a huge cop-out with the regeneration?
I don't know, frankly. He still finds new ways to amaze with the role, IMO - I'd love another few years to see what else he can do. But the ending to last week's episode suggests things are going to be otherwise - let's hope for the best, I guess - one way or another. Damn that naughty cliffhanger... it's going to pay off huge or wind up like a pie in the face. |

Press preview copies would not have had the regeneration scene... |

Don't know if this is the right thread for this or not.
I usually avoid spoilers where possible around this time of year but I accidentally found this story on IMDb. Obviously it's all still rumour and hearsay, but here you are anyway-
----------------------
Trainspotting star Robert Carlyle is in talks to take over from David Tennant as TV time traveller Dr. Who.
Tennant is rumoured to be leaving the cult BBC TV show at the end of the current series in 2009 and speculation about his replacement is pointing to fellow Scot Carlyle.
Although Tennant has refused to confirm whether he will be quitting his role as the Time Lord, tough guy Carlyle hasn't ruled out stepping into his place.
He says, "Would I do it? Possibly." |

This comes from a story in the UK papers yesterday that repeat an earlier report of the odds at a bookmaker for who will replace David Tennant. Anyone can post to imdb as to wiki, but it is more difficult to remove bad data from imdb. Plus, Davros has been in the finales to every series of Doctor Who according to IMDB at some point! |

Ha, yes that's a very good point! I believe I've heard Ken call it the Inaccurate Movie Database on Podshock before. It is the second time I've heard the Robert Carlyle rumour though. |

It just sounds like everyone just going with the original bookie story. If the papers have got to go to bookies for their entertainment news, what does that say about the state of journalism? They should consult a fortuneteller instead. I here Chipo Chung is available... |
