Ditto on that thought.
But would she make a good Rani? I just don't know.
There were only two Rani stories - "The Mark of the Rani" and "Time and the Rani". We have a baseline for the character in the two stories so it can be built on.
EDIT:
I just checked Digital Spy and they say the appearance is supposed to be a cameo appearance. Here is a link to the story as they have it on Digital Spy:
Anderson to make 'Doctor Who' cameo? |

| No no no no no. The Rani was a bloody awful character. A terrible terrible character in two terrible terrible stories by two terrible terrible writers. Please GOD NO! Not the Rani. Never ever ever. This is not a good thing. Gillian Anderson in Doctor Who on the other hand would be fantastic. She's a sexy older (than the regular guests) lady who would make a great companion. PLEASE NOT THE RANI though! Did I mention I hate the Rani?

I will give you one of the two stories is rubbish, but I didn't think Mark of the Rani was that bad. There have been far worse.
Cheers,

I agree Louis, I thought Mark of the Rani was pretty good.* Visually it was almost flawless, they managed to capture the time period just right (although Peri's dress - ). I thought Kate O'Mara played it just right - The Rani isn't and shouldn't be a female Master, she is a scientist who just hasn't grasped that 'human aspect'. Whereas The Master...!
Sadly all that was forgotten by Time and the Rani. Which I didn't think is as bad as people make out - honest!
(* But why she had to disguise herself - I don't know!) |

I don't count that because it was a special project and not "of the series". Granted "Time-Crash" is considered to be cannon because it was made to tie in to the story, But for the most part I didn't include the "Children in Need" specials (and others of the ilk) as cannon.
I admit it was a terrible story but I don't consider it cannon. |

Okay , I guess I'll throw my two cents in. Of all the Colin stories (most of which I've not rewatched in a long time, hopefully (?) soon I will get to them) I like MARK OF THE RANI and TWIN DILEMMA (ducking now) best. I guess his Dalek story was okay too. Thing is, as written the Rani in that was not a token, ranting villainess as she became in TIME AND THE RANI(which is to me, the worst story ever made). True, she and the Master seemed to be like the Catwoman and Penquin from the old Batman series but at least in this SHE has motivations for what she was doing. And she didn't go so far over the top to be ridiculous as in TIME AND THE RANI.
On DIMENSIONS IN TIME: strywise yes it is crap but afer so long without anything really new, at least in the first part, it was nice to see the characters and actors again. Something more coherent would have been nice but I must say I kind of (ducking again) enjoyed it when I saw it (and in fact, had low expectations of it). I must say at the time I liked it better than I liked, at the time, TIME CRASH and maybe even CURSE OF FATAL DEATH. |

If this were to happen, between it and James Marsters being on Torchwood all of my favorite shows would be blending together. Maybe Mal Reynolds from Firefly could appear on Sarah Jane Adventures. |

| Not sure what you mean. Who is Mal Reynolds and why would the shows be blending together if Gillian is on one show and James on the other? |

I'm just making a joke. James played Spike on Buffy and then played Captain John in Torchwood. Gillian played Scully on X-Files and then will play some as yet unknown character in Doctor Who. Nathan Fillion played Captain Mal Reynolds, the captain of Serenity, on Firefly. If he were to have a guest role on SJA it would be another...ah nevermind. |
