Fantastic episode - this is certainly one to scare the kids!!!
SPOILER ALERT:
A brilliant way to introduce (kind of) Torchwood. The speech by Queen Vic the first at the end about setting up an institution to protect against alien beings was truely inspired. What a fantastic way to officially introduce its creation.

| Yes, when I first heard mention of Torchwood at the beginning of the episode I began to wonder if it would become this season's Bad Wolf. |

That was excellent! Better than 'New Earth' I thought. Torchwood was explained nicely. I love the 'Dr James McCrimmon' bit at the start. My children were hiding behind cushions again - fantastic!! |
|
P.S. It is of course possible that this message is a trap. If it is I can deal with it. P.P.S. I'm leaving this note in case I can't!

Apparently it also scored top marks with the BBC's official "scaryness panel".
There are also references to "Bad Wolf" from the last season.
As well a few nods to the classic story "Horror of Fang Rock" |

Where was the Fang Rock reference?
( dunno why I just put that in white. It's not even a spoiler) |

Btw, there's another "Tooth and Claw" thread going in the David Tennant Era Forum.
I thought the episode was excellent! I do feel though the the Torchwood information is too much too soon. There was a subtle reference there but the bit at the end was overkill IMO.

Thanks I saw that. I am guessing one was accidentally created in the Christopher Eccleston Era Forum, so I moved to the David Tennant one. Unfortunately, this particular forum software does not allow for merging the two together... so both threads should now be in the David Tennant Era one...

Just finished the episode best 1st and 2nd series episode ever IMO. The Doc and Rose really seem to be clicking well and I like the humor alot more the with Rose and CE. The Jamie McCrimmon reference was awesome, I loved that bit.I agree with MikeD though the Torchwood bits were not needed at all, and where is Unit in all this Torchwood stuff. Seems like the Queen is saying that Torchwood is for the unexplained stuff, I thought Unit was setup for the same type of thing.

| Given that UNIT stands for United Nations Intellegence Taskforce, surely it must have been created after the formation of the UN in 1945? Torchwood obviously was created much earlier (1879 ish?) and only with the UK in mind according to good old Queen Vic. |

I also wonder if - from The Christmas Invasion - UNIT handles things in a very "Marquess of Queensbury Rules" kind of way, while Torchwood is not so bothered about following the rules. |

Oh, I really enjoyed Tooth an Claw!
I an more intersted in Torchwood now than I was by the Christmas Invasion reference. The Doctor and UNIT have always gotten along well ("the stuff of legend"… and all that). But it seems as if the Doctor (especially his newest incarnation) will be enemy number one at Torchwood, or at least persona non grata. He *has* been banned from the Empire…
I'm quite looking forward to see how this develops. |

| There has been a lot about this in the RTD Doctor Who. In Dalek, Rose mentions that the Doctor would be the best exhibit in Van Staten's collection, and Van Staten himself does investigate this possibility. Then there are the Prime Minister's comments during the Christmas Invasion. |
