Thanks Taras! I can't believe that the BBC keep changing the time ther show is on!

They didn't really report that the Girl in the Fireplace was going to be on 15 minutes early, but strangly they were keen to tell views that School Reunion would be delayed by 5 minutes. What's that all about???

Surely it is more important to report that an episode will be earlier than later!

Yep, Age of Steel is on the same night as Eurovision and that's why the broadcast is early. The same thing happened last year with The Empty Child.

The Girl in the Fireplace went out in the proper time slot. All the prior broadcasts were not at the standard time. One would expect if they were going to announce something over the end titles/credits, a time change would be it... But as I can not fathom the mystery that is the BBC bureaucracy, I defer to more learned souls than myself. I just don't want you to have a repeat of last year's "turn on the telly" incident!

The first five episodes have been scheduled in three different timeslots. In June and July the World Cup is sure to have an effect on when Doctor Who airs each week. I'm not sure there is such a thing as a "proper timeslot" for Doctor Who this year.

Doesn't the BBC re-run the episode each weekend as well? Or is that only on digital (BBC Three)? If they re-run it each weekend, at least it gives those that were unfortunate to miss part of it due to schedule changes a chance to catch it in its entirety perhaps.

    Cheers,
    Louis

They are on BBC3. With the timeslot varying a bit. The daftest was last Sunday, when they showed a Cutdown Confidential relating to "The Girl in the Fireplace" right before the episode...

SO....do you Brits really watch the Eurovision song contest thingy? I mean, you must if that's why the BBC changed the time, but it seems so...... I can't think of anything polite to say, so I'll just leave it at "so"....

Eurovision is one of the campest, most bizarre competitions in history but there's always something to see that's worth talking about. It has a cult following in Britain - mainly due to commentary of the UK announcer Terry Wogan, who always has some glib remark to make about the various entries. It's worth watching just to hear his sly digs at the entries. Some of the countries take it very seriously and don't always appreciate the lighthearted view that the British take. Any country that wins the competition has the honour of being the host country next year and many of those that win view the occasion as a mini-Olympics opening ceremony since it means lots of international television coverage of their nation.

In many ways Eurovision rather like a road accident - you don't want to look but somehow you can't help yourself. I watch it because it restores my faith in society - that no matter how much closer we may all be getting with things like the Internet, there are still some things in the world which will always beggar belief (like the Balkan countries alway voting for one another and why Cyprus and Greece always give each other the 12 point vote regardless of how bad the song was).

It goes on for about 3 hours and is a bit of a task to sit through so it's generally best done with a group of friends and a bottle (or four) of wine to cushion the experience. If any Americans can bear the length it's worth trying to watch it online. It will make you believe that we're all completely barmy (which of course we are).

    Eurovision?

    EUROVISION?

This waste of time inconsistancy in Saturday evening television is not in my schedule. It is a excuse for entertainment. I would sooner watch paint dry. It bores me rigid. Its only funny when someone gets 'nil points'. Most of the people on it have no dress sense. Twelve months later nobody can remember what the song that won sounded like. I cannot understand why anybody would want to watch it. If I had my way it would be... deleted.

As a side note - I forget where I read it, but according to those who do the figures each week 700,000 people switched their televisual recieving devices on during 'The Girl In The Fireplace' only to dicover that they had missed the start of the program. I can think of no greater crime than spoiling a Doctor Who fans day. Imagine how many children had waited all week to see the episode only to find that they missed the start.

You are rogue elements... You are incompatible... You will be... Deleted!

I agree completely Abersoch! Watching Eurovision can be a lot of fun and is good for a laugh. Without the Wogan commentary it's interesting but with Wogan it can be sublime. At home you have to wonder who has had more to drink, you or him! Watching all the votes come in is always a lot of fun too. It can be so obviously political

Plus, the entry from Finland this year is a death metal band!

What?! The reasons you've just stated are some of the very reason why people want to watch it. If you watch the Eurovision Song Contest and understand it then you've missed the point Wink
