[Quote by: mad4plaid] [Quote by: actorguy] [Quote by: seanhuxter] Philips DVP642 cost me $60.00 at walmart and plays DivX DVDs nicely.
I just cut them as computer files to my DVD writer, and it works fine.

I love my DVP642! You don't even have to have a DVD writer! It will play avi's and mpeg's burned onto a CD-R!

Is this one also region free? I'm looking for a player that will play DivX as well as region free. Any ideas? (& yes, completely off topic) |
|
Be careful with Philips some of them don't support DvD audio which is (I would have thought) a standard requirement these days.
This last weekend I bought a Philips and it hacked easily enough but could not play 5:1 audio discs.
Took it back and bought a Toshiba 4990.... hacked just as easily.... plays divx....better picture and 5: audio |

Yes, it is region-free. I forget the sequence of buttons, but you can set its region to 0 (region-free) using the remote. I'm sure you could find the sequence online, that's how I found it.
Also, there's a nice undocumented feature. Hold STOP down and it will eject the disk.
And yes, it will play divx AVI files (and other formats) on a CD-R, so if you don't have a DVD writer, you can still watch shows of an hour long (or more) on a CD-R with the DVP642.
I love mine.
Warning! Sometimes mine acts up, usually very late at night, but that may have nothing to do with it. Sometimes it freezes or stutters, and it could entirely be that the DVDs I used to write are cheap and unreliable, but I thought I'd toss out this warning.

Yes, I saw that .PDF schedule file too, but it has not yet been confirmed by Sci Fi. That could be anything.
Could be true... might not be.

I bought my 642 at Radio (now The Source) Shack. You can see it here although it may be available cheaper elsewhere. You can also play CD-R and CD-RW discs on it.

| Which two hour will they show? The Christmas invasion is 15 minutes too long to show in an hour but perhaps the CIN special plus the Xmas invasion could fill the best part of two hours for the Sci-fi channel. Pad it with a cut-down DW Confidential (New New Doctor) and hey presto definately two hours of Americal TV. |

Now that is a brilliant idea. I hadn't even begun to hope that the Children In Need special would be shown. |

Current speculation is that the first two episodes of Series Two (New Earth and Tooth and Claw) will air on September 29th followed by the rest of the series in weekly installments, and that The Christmas Invasion will air sometime in December as a special after the run of Series Two. If we discount the Thanksgiving Day weekend (US) that means that the series will run thru December 22.

I read this over on www.gallifreyone.com
I just don't understand the point of putting the SET UP episode at the end of the run. Seriously, at that point, it starts to remind me of how FoxTV treated Firefly: putting episodes on out of order, helter-skelter, at different times. That's not how you satisfy your audience or create a new audience! |
