Does anyone know what the song was in the Christmas Invasion? The one played at the end when the Doctor is in the wardrobe and Rose et al are getting dinner ready? Just dreadfully catchy and what not... Thanks!

I haven't verified it yet, but one poster on RADW (that cesspool) claims it is a very slight variant on a song from "Hedwig and the Angry Inch", and he quotes lyrics too, which are only slightly changed in the Christmas Invasion.
I have to re-rent Hedwig and check it out.

What a minute... I have the soundtrack for Hedwig and the Angry Inch... Not only did I see the movie, but I also saw the actual stage production in New York prior to it. I can say that the song from The Christmas Invasion is not from Hedwig. But having said that, it is musically similar to the song Wig in a Box (at least a section of the song)... but it is a completely different song. Different lyrics altogether and different music (albeit similar). I have to admit the first time watching The Christmas Invasion I thought I immediately recognized the song... it definitely has a familiar sound to it. But then I realized I did not know the song as I processed the lyrics.
So I don't know who did the song in TCI, perhaps we need to talk to Murray Gold or perhaps there will eventually be a new Doctor Who soundtrack album to purchase (Ken and I were just talking about that the other day... we had hoped that by now there would be something released). Perhaps it is Murray Gold, he has the only "Music" credit outside of Ron Grainer (original theme music) and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in the end credits of The Christmas Invasion... though I imagine there is a good deal that was left uncredited that contributed to this special episode.
Cheers,

The post (by Ronnie Clark on RADW) wasn't actually saying it was plagiarised, but did say this:
---------------------------------
(View with mono-space font):
A
When I woke up today
E F#m C#m
And the world seemed a restless pla-ace
D A E
It could have been that way for me
A E
I put on some make-up
F#m C#m
Turn on the tape deck
D A E
And pull the wig down from the self
It was just one of those things I noticed, that you could sing "Wig in a
Box" over it without a hitch.
Incidentally, the lyrics (transcribed, so possibly wrong) from the Christmas
Invasion seem to be:
When I woke up today
And the world seemed a restless plaace
It could have been that way for me
And I wondered around
And I thought of your face
That Christmas looking back at me
-----------------------------------------
As I said, I have yet to compare, but this was a pretty good post indicating something more than coincidental similarity.
I'd say that Gold is a fan of Hedwig and gave it homage in the Christmas special.
Sean.

All I know is that they need to release a series 1 soundtrack! Having listened to Regeneration last night (finally) they play so many fantastic pieces during that, I realized that they too know what a goldmine (pun!) they are sitting on and should get to that ASAP! Yesterday in fact!
TCI song was just the finishing touch to a season packed with incredible music!!

There are definite similarities between the two songs. As I said, when I first heard the music piece in TCI, I thought it was immediately familiar. The song in TCI could very well be a nod to the Hedwig song. Another possibility (just a guess) is that perhaps they originally wanted to use the Hedwig song, but couldn't secure the rights or something and then went with an original song while retaining the same feel. Since the Hedwig song describes the actions of getting dressed, it would have fit in the scene starting with the Doctor picking out his new wardrobe. Or they wanted a similar song but with "Christmas" in it somehow.
Perhaps we will eventually find out how that song came about. I just didn't want people to buy the Hedwig album expecting to hear the same song from TCI.
Cheers,
Louis

You can listen to the song now on the BBC website. Click on episodes, click on the Christmas Invasion, then click on more... and other options will pop up. It's near the end of the list.
Unfortunately, it's an .asx file, and my Mac doesn't like those.... |

It's only a clip from the song, not the complete song. Also, it plays on my Mac using the Windows Media Player as streaming content. Also VLC will play it as well on the Mac (an error message may pop up, but it will still play).
We are still holding out hope for the complete song to be released at some point.

You can go out to the bar for a few hours, just make sure you bring at least one episode of Doctor Who: Podshock with you so you can play the Podshock Drinking Game.
