[Quote In news that is sure to rock the gaming world it has been confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII, the blockbuster RPG highly anticipated by millions of fans of the series, will not be an exclusive game for the PlayStation 3 console.
The Final Fantasy XIII project as of right now consists of two games for the PlayStation 3 as well as a mobile game. Motomu Toriyama of Square Enix has come out and made the confirmation that other consoles will be receiving Final Fantasy XIII on top of the PlayStation 3.

HArdly conclusive evidence is it. All the game shops neer me seem to be out of stock of PS3's so it's not like they're not selling. |

While Sony maybe on it's way out (I just bought a 60" Sony TV and a Sony Blu-Ray player, so I hope not), I think this is just a case of there being insufficient PS3 in the world to justify the development costs of the game. With the relatively, small number of PS3 that have been purchased to date (more supply constrained than purchase constrained) any game is risking whether it can sell enough copies to make a profit, and this will be the case for several years.
Spreading the title over multiple platforms obviously increases development costs but also maximizes your chances of breaking even (assuming the game is half decent). |

| I've actually seen quite a few PS3's sitting on the store shelves in my area, for several weeks now. Haven't seen a single Wii though... |

Sony is a very big company with various divisions. There is Sony music, movies, video game consoles, televisions, computers, etc. They have tripped up very publicly a few times recently... but these cases were pretty much isolated to one or more of their divisions, not necessarily the company as a whole. I don't think Sony itself is on it's way out. Clearly they may have lost their footing in certain areas. Despite the problems with Sony music CDs installing root-kits on people's computers, Sony-made rechargeable laptop batteries being recalled left and right, the iPod replacing the Walkman in regards as the dominate portable music player, PS3 sales not being as strong as they would like, PS3 titles not being as strong as the public may like, and just recently Sony DVD titles having to be replaced due to an extra layer of copy-guard causing them to break in certain players... I still wouldn't count them out yet. And as many things that they are getting wrong, they still get some things right such as their HDTVs as well as other products.
It is sometimes difficult to see Sony as one company because they are so large and they are in so many different areas. I see many divisions of the company tripping over itself, but as a whole, I don't think it is going away.
Cheers,

The 40" Sony Bravia with 3 HDMI ports is awesome! Hockey in HD is almost like being at the game live, just without someone spilling beer on you. Well, maybe there's no getting away from that one... |
