If you mean that 'Enterprise' was a mistake I agree! I loved the other 4 Star Trek Series, but hated Enterprise. I hope they get back on track in the FUTURE.

Well, not only that, but also the new feature film in pre-production (?) is supposedly set in the "academy years" of the original characters... or some such silly nonsense as that.

The biggest downfall to the Enterprise series was that it took place in Trek's history. We already know how everything turns out so there is no real sense of danger or drama. If they had the same set characters/actors set in the TNG or future timeline, it would had one less drawback to it. The series did not 'look' like it was predating the original series as well. It seemed like an alternate dimension Trek series... and if go into it with that preface, I can enjoy it more.

This is not Star Wars, we don't need to know how Darth Vader became Darth Vader. It might be interesting to see how the Federation was formed, but that could be accomplished with either a flashback or time-travel episode or two... not a series or a feature film for that matter.

    Cheers,
    Louis

Wow, now we have a good discussion going on this thread. why don't we bring it to CIA. I'm shure there are many different pinions about Star Trek's Future.

I am sorry I had to leave abruptly after this week's show was over. Thanks for having me on board, West... though I have to admit after doing Doctor Who: Podshock, I was already fizzled out (brain gone to mush).

The future of Star Trek should be in the future! Not the past.

Well it was a long night but I enjoyed it - but I'm getting annoyed with the audio problems.

Switching to Skype from Gizmo seemed to help but its all a bit messy.

I'd sorted out Gizmo after last weeks show - and the webcam audio (seperate control program) was also sorted ie. settings down to 30% and auto settings turned off.

After the sound problems tonight I checked Gizmo and it had de-faulted the sound levels back to 50%.

Also - althought the 'auto' settings were unticked the sound 'gain' seemed to increase when my mike was 'open' but I wasn't speaking - as though it was trying to 'pick up low levels of sound.

Switching back to Skype didn't much improve my speech but did reduce the background 'noise'

Trying another mic in the middle didn't seem to work - it just didn't except the changed input.

So until August and Talkshoe's own call-in software I'll stick with Skype - dam the 2 cents a minute charge :-)

    Cheers, daveac

Sorry - bit of a rant coming:-

Well I've just listenned back to Podshock 85 and yesterdays CIA and am still annoyed with my sound qualtiy.

On Podshock 85 my audio is fine when speaking - but as soon as I stopped, say to listen, the racket of a hover sound keeps building - as though the mic is trying ever harder to pick up sound. And this is when the Auto gain is OFF.

So for CIA I switched to Skype - and this time the audio on CIA via Skype was poorer than from Gizmo - and Gizmo had had 34 members on at one point.

So today I went and bought a 'Skype' headphone and mic with a volume control and a 'mute' button. Up to now I've used standard headphones with the mic being the built-in one on my webcam.

Anyway this headset made by Zeta which connected via the soundcard cost 18UKPs (35 dollars) and it was rubbish!!

The recording volume had to be on 100% to be audable - and that's with altering everything - so two hours later I'd taken it back.

I've now bought a USB headset 'Mikomi' for 20 UKPs (40dollars) and that's worked a treat with the Skype 'Test Call' It also has a volume control and mute button - but with a VERY bright blue light next to it that I've had to tape over (it was like a searchlight!)

I wanted one with a 'mute' button as a backup - as trying to mute with '*6' took too long and the software keeps saying 'you are muted' etc. - stopping me from quickly jumping in and out with a comment.

So for about the fifth week in a row I'll be hoping to join in without causing too much interference.

    Cheers, daveac

Had to come on and post in this thread - not following up my earlier posts but:-

On BBC HD I've just been watching a programme called 'How We Built Britain' which uses the building of the past to inform us of the times in which they were built.

    Tonight was all about Scotland.

Now in CIA we talked of lots different SF shows as well as Dr Who and Star Trek - one of those being Highlander (TV Series)

And in this programme tonight they interviewed an 89 old man who still worked a small loom making Harris Tweed cloth.

His name.........Duncan McCloud!!! I nearly fell out of my chair.

Sounds good to me - SciFi authors can aways roll over to a quieter week.

Just listenned to 1st July CIA and I'm still mixed up about the audio problems - and sorry for that echo problem.

Using my headphone/mic set via Gizmo on the same day - same settings my voice came over OK on the Podshock podcast - both at the time and listenning back to the recording.

On CIA it sounded fine at my end - but it appears I was causing 'echo' (which I couldn't hear during the show) The recording also sounds fine when I'm talking - no echo recorded.

It wasn't me causing the 'music' which seems to be generated when someone presses the 'Hold' rather than 'mute' button.

So I dropped out and called in via SkypeOut - but then for some reason I can be hardly heard - so I just ended up typing input.

Since Podshock and CIA (at least for the first half hour) were both entered by me with the same software and same settings - how come the results were so different?

In the past the problem was caused by me using my other mic when the computer noise was being picked up - especial at times when I was un-muted but wasn't actually speaking.

Looks like I'll have to sign up to ShoePhone.

    Cheers, daveac

Dave, though the settings and PC and software remain the same each conect to TalkShoe is unique. There is no way (in Beta especially) that every experience is going to be a smooth road. Glad you are bearing with the difficultys, glad to have you around.

Yeah, Dave. Except for maybe the first two Podshocks, and one other in which I was intentionally messing around with things, I've had exactly the same settings the whole time. And some weeks it's fine; other weeks there's distinct line noise, and still other times I sound quite muffled. And there's really no rhyme or reason for it; it's just how it is. I personally think that simple net congestion has a lot to do with it.
