A celebration of 45 Years of Daleks will be held at the
National Space Centre Leicester (UK) on Saturday November 29th, 2008. Lots of "Daleks through through the ages" with 60's, 70's 80's and 2000's TV daleks and Movie Daleks too.

Plus "guests" (names not released yet).

At least 9 "Project Dalek" Daleks are attending.

Latest on this event is that Terry Malloy will be there (contingent on no recording of The Archers on that Day). Classic series Effects wizard Matt Irvine will attend with K9 and other props.

This event is getting quite big.

Currently, there will be 28 Daleks, 4 K9s and probably a TARDIS. The organizers are arranging a few more TV Who guests.

    Shame I can't go Frown

This event is now getting serious, in addition to terry Malloy and Matt Irvine, there will be an official attempt to break the Dalek World record (set in Manchester last year) plus the unveiling of STORM (this is a must see SWD [Special Weapons Dalek]). He is pretty amazing, I asked if I could post a picture of Storm, but was told he is still under wraps (try going to youtube and searching for "dalek storm 2" Wink )

With regards to the "world record" attempt. In Manchester there were 70 "daleks", in fact there were 24 Daleks (i.e. full scale fan build faithful replicas and variants) the remainder were more of homemade halloween custumes (collinders, egg whisks and sink plungers). At this event, there will be 38 fan built replicas (aka real daleks)and as many costumed daleks as possible (there is a Scout troop of 70 coming). They are hoping to hold a craft workshop on the day, where kids (and perhaps big kids too)can create their own outfits and participate in the record attempt.

Some preliminary information is now available on the space centre web sit -> here

    This could be worth going.
Would you Adam-and-Eve it but i've never been to a Doctor Who event in my life. This looks like the perfect opportunity as i have friends in Leicester and probably could make a weekender of it.
Might also meet some Podshock listeners while i;m there (hint hint) Big Grin

Latest on this event is that there will be

43 Fan built Daleks spanning the 45 year timeline (including Storm [see earlier post] and the New Series Dalek Supreme)

    2 Fan built Davros(es)

4 Fan Built K9s (perhaps the real one too, with Matt Irvine)

    2 Tardises (Tardi?)

1 Dalek Thompson Gun (Daleks in Manhatten)

    2 Cybermen

    1 Ice Warrior

    1 Sontaran

    1 Scarecrow

    1 Pig Slave

    1 Clockwork Droid

Special guests Terry Molloy (Davros), David Gooderson (Davros), David Hankinson (Dalek Operator) and Matt Irvine (Classic SFX Guy)

A world record attempt for the most Daleks in one place (there are twice the number of fan-built Daleks present in Manchester, so it will come down to how many fancy dressed people turn-up)

Hope some of you managed to attend this.
The world record was smashed. There were 44 Dalek props present (versus 24 in Manchester) and 55 Dalek costumes (versus 46 in Manchester). I forward some images once they are posted in the Dalek Building Forums. I believe that both BBC and ITV news crews were present.
