For me, it's 'The Invasion' every time.

P.S. It is of course possible that this message is a trap. If it is I can deal with it. P.P.S. I'm leaving this note in case I can't!

Keep in mind, concerning the episodes with cybermen, I didn't even know the show existed until approximately 1980 so my best "Old School" cyberman story is "Tomb of the Cybermen". who can forget the conversation between the Doctor and Victoria about the their families!!!

On the the new series the best episode/story is "Army of Ghost/Doomsday". You didn't know it was the cybermen until the big reveal near the end. ... though the shapes LOOKED familiar - you didn't know for sure 'til then.

I can't say anything about "Invasion" because I've never seen anything from the story except a few publicity stills. I include "Tomb" because I saw the episodes on "surfthechannel.com" (even though it was broken up)and only one episode was reconstructed. It was creepy and atmospheric enough to leave an impression on me that I won't forget in a while.

The Cybermen are a part of "Doctor Who" history and will never be forgotten. Exclaimation Exclaimation Exclaimation

PS: I would love to see "Invasion" in it's entirety but I don't think it exist. I hear the cybermen coming out of the sewers is especially powerful.

I have a soft spot of Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel... mainly because it was the first Doctor Who story I saw, having come into the show through the new series.
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday is good as well, but I was sad at how much the Daleks pwned the Cybermen in that one.

Can't wait to see them again at Christmas.

My other favorite is Tomb of the Cybermen, an overall lovely atmospheric story with many great moments.
And it's Two and Jamie *fawns*

Also like The Invasion, from the bits I've seen, I got it on DVD recently, so I'll be watching the whole thing soon.

But I like the 60's cybermen the best. The ones in the 80's tended to sound too much like Darth Vader for my liking, plus they just didn't look as creepy as they did in the 60's.

    bye bye david :(

From "Classic Who" I would choose the big finish audioplay "spare Parts" a great piece of writing (its a bit like "Titanic": you know what has to happen at the end though you hope there can be an happier alternative. "Sword of Orion" and "The Girl who never was" are also great cybermen stories from BF. "Tomb of the cybermen" would be my Classic TV story, if I was forced to choose. I find "Invasion" a bit too long. Unlike nearly everyone else I do not enjoy "earthshock" that much (other than the wonderful death of Adric).

In current who, I would have to choose Doomsday, as I did for the best Dalek story.

Hate the Cybermen. Barring their occasional good use in audio, it's really hard to pick a Cyber story and say, "Wow, that's great Doctor Who". I suppose, if pressed, I'd say "Doomsday", mainly cause they get their asses handed so easily to them by the Daleks, and because the emotional content of the story is so appealing.

They're abysmal creations, though. I hope Steven Moffat, just like Barry Letts before him, hates the Cybermen. I could go a very long time without seeing them.

Old-The Invasion. For me not only the best Cyberman story , but the best 2nd Doctor story.
    New- Doomsday.

The cybermen as a concept in Doctor Who is a great idea. Unfortunately, it was never realized well either on screen or with believable stories for what the original brief was. They basically became the rubber suit monster du jour. The closest we got to a good cyberman story was Marc Platt's Spare Parts for the Big Finish audio range.
