That's a tough one. I would probably go for DEADLY ASSASSIN.Frankly, truth be told, all of them are deadly dull in spots. INVASION OF TIME is probably my favorite because Tom is so...strange in it. Louise gets to do a lot and react to many different types of people/beings. That Borusa is my favorite so yeah INVASION OF TIME with a close second by DEADLY. I also like the Gallifrey of the later WAR GAMES episodes, it's

ARC is totally off the mark in almost every way from the sets to the depiction of the Matrix to the silly Colin Baker portrayal of Maxil to the link to Earth to the Arc itself...the only good stuff is the run around in Amsterdam. Oh and maybe Damon.

I must admit to being partial to THE FIVE DOCTORS but it's hardly a Gallifrey story at all really. The parts on the "recognizable Gallifrey" are deadly dull and the rest might as well be a different planet totally as the Death Zone seems to be. I like it for the mixing of charactrs from the past with each other and the new.

I'd go for The Deadly Assassin too, for a few reasons. It was the first time the Doctor was on his own and I thought that drew his charcater really well. I also enjoyed the downright weirdness of it all!

And also we've got something to critise the Matrix, seeing how they ripped off the idea from this story! Wink

I thought that The Invasion of Time showed us what Gallifrey was really like. A society with a class structure, much like our own but not so cruel. Wink

Please check out my blog, as I attempt to watch and review EVERY Doctor Who episode!

Once again, I would have to go with the "Deadly Assassin" as a favorite, mainly because it made such an impression on me when I was a kid. That Master costume kept me awake at night!!

As stated above many of the true (non-multi Doctor) TV stories are weak (particularly "the invasion of time), however the Big Finish Gallifrey series is really very good (though Doctor-less). The lack of a Doctor is more than compensated for by the presence of Romana I & II, K9 (two of them) and Leela.

I'll break from the consensus - "The Three Doctors".

Granted we saw Gallifrey in previous stories, this is the first time we see it in any danger. That made it look more perilous than previously seen.

I'd put "The Deadly Assassin" in a very close second. As in "The Three Doctors", the planet is in danger but this time from "The Master" (as opposed to Omega).

I just realized that most of the dangers on Gallifrey are "home-grown" threats. Except for the Vardan/Sontaran alliance ("The Invasion of Time") all the enemies on Gallifrey were from Gallifrey. "The Master" ("The Deadly Assasin"), Omega ("The Three Doctors" and "Arc of Infinity"), and Borusa ("The Five Doctors") were all from Gallifrey.

NOTE: I am talking about the episodes that are actually televised. We know the Daleks were at war with the Time Lords but we never saw that on screen so I didn't include that possibilty. There are also other threats from books and audio plays but I also did not include them either.
