Cat People (Putting Out the Fire) - didn't Bowie write and sing the lyrics to Giorgio Moroder's theme song? I think the song was a product of the movie...

Louis, yer freakin' me out, man!

Not sure I can count 1984 or Let's Dance, or any that were created BEFORE Bowie wrote the songs, as they aren't really named AFTER the Bowie song.

And ones like Absolute Beginners, When the Wind Blows and Cat People don't really count because the Bowie songs were written FOR those pieces. The show has to come after the Bowie song and not be directly related to Bowie.

But wow... that was just scary, Louis...

    Sean.

One solid hope is worth a cartload of uncertainties.

No wonder Podshock is always "late". Louis is busy watching all the movies with Bowie song names as titles!!! Twisted Evil

LOL Mr. Green I am just a long time Bowie fanatic! Yeah, I figured I was stretching it with movies that predated Bowie songs, but I limited it to just "talkies" as I left out silent films from the list.

Hey, I didn't even touch his Tin Machine catalog of songs... as I was limiting to just songs under his own name.

David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett, Robyn Hitchcock, The Beatles, etc... so much of my music leanings come from artists originating from the UK.

    Cheers,
    Louis

It's looking likely that 'Life on Mars' will not be shown next week - 27th Feb - something about showing a football match.

I'll try an post again when I see it comfirmed - unless anyone else posts the info.

So there may not be a 'Red-Eye' flight that week.

    Cheers, daveac

I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get ...um... the red eye yesterday. So I checked out the Life on Mars page on bbc.co.uk. It seems that BBC1 showed the second episode on the 20th -- what was shown on BBC4 last Tuesday. AND episode 3 (the bombing ep shown in previews) was on BBC4 again last night after episode 2 was on BBC1.

So, viewers have the option, it seems, to really be ahead of the game and watch on BBC4 or wait a week and watch an episode an hour earlier on BBC1.

What could be the reason behind doing it this way? 4 isn't a digital channel like 3 is it? Is it not available to everyone?

Was a bit confusing to me the way the website was worded as well. Was expecting 2 eps a week. So what is the word on next week? Is the UK afflicted with the dread "Sports First" bug that happens here Cry . The ep was ok, but seemed more of a moral play than Sci-Fi this week. Or is it just me? Wink

    Cheers,
    Mike M.

It's looking like BBC 1 - no LOM
BBC 4 - maybe showing a repeat - ie so it doesn't get two weeks ahead of BBC1.

Back in 1991 when I took my first (and so far only) trip to the UK there was a music magazine called something like Q with the cover headline, Does Tin Machine Suck? Discuss. I still have it at home somewhere. I'll have to dig it up and scan it. Mr. Green

I sure picked the wrong day to try doing a Google News search on the upcoming Ashes to Ashes show...Ash Wednesday. I'll wait a few days and try again. Rolling Eyes

This is weird, just as I am replying to this message, the song "David Bowie" by Momma off their Copter album came on my iPod which is currently in a random play.

Yes, I remember when Tin Machine first hit the scene, there were some mixed reviews... especially if you had different expectations as it was quite different from Bowie's solo work at that time... it is a bit harder edge one might say. I enjoy it. A good combination with Reeves Gabriel and Tony Sales. It was probably ahead of its time.

Is today Ash Wednesday already? Or perhaps next Wednesday? Oh my. Feels like it was just Valentine's Day last week. Wink

    Cheers,
    Louis

That's the next historical figure that the Doctor should meet up with... Or as DarthSkeptical once suggested the Doctor winding up in the middle of the American Revolution.

Hmm... actually this should go into another thread... Back to Life on Mars Series 2.

    k - back to LoM2...

somebody explain to me again what is with that creapy girl in the dress and her even creapier clown doll. Did such a picture really show up when nothing was being broadcast? She seriously gives me the creaps: "red wire, yellow wire, red wire, yellow wire." It's like "redrum" all over again!

Possible hints to what is actually going on are said to be in the Lyrics of "Life on Mars". So possible spoilers, if you can dig them out. Wink

David Bowie - Life On Mars

It's a God awful small affair
    To the girl with the
    mousey hair,
But her mummy is yelling, "No!"
    And her
daddy has told her to go,
But her friend is no where to be
    seen.
Now she walks through her sunken dream
    To the
    seats with the clearest view
    And she's hooked to the
    silver screen,
But the film is sadd'ning bore
    For
she's lived it ten times or more.
    She could spit in
    the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on
    Sailors
    Fighting in the dance hall.
    Oh man!
    Look at those cavemen go.
    It's the freakiest
    show.
Take a look at the lawman
    Beating up the wrong
    guy.
    Oh man!
    Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show.
    Is there life on
    Mars?
    It's on America's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow.
    Now the workers
    have struck for fame
    'Cause Lennon's on sale
    again.
See the mice in their million hordes
    From Ibeza
    to the Norfolk Broads.
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns,
    But the film is a
sadd'ning bore'Cause I wrote it ten times or
    more.
It's about to be writ again
    As I ask you to
    focus on
    Sailors
    Fighting in the dance hall.
    Oh man!
    Look at those cavemen go.
    It's the
    freakiest show.
Take a look at the lawman

    Oh man!
    Wonder if he'll ever
