So is anyone watching "Life on Mars?"
I've seen the first two episodes so far... pretty good.
Time travel, or coma dream? You decide.
But either way, it's Science Fiction enough, I guess...
Any comments on this one?
(Me, I think I'm in love with WPC Cartright...)

I haven't been watching it - but I did mean to! Oops!
It looks like a typical BBC drama - ie: FAB!

Late reply I know - but for what it's worth - it's one of BBC the 3 best programmes this year - and for a lot longer -
The other 2 - need you ask?
Dr Who
Planet Earth (a natural world series)

Planet Earth is a phenominal series, it's one of those series that justifies the license fee. It is breathtaking. The cave full of crytalised columns was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
I love Hustle too - a great BBC series. |

Well I might have some good news you haven't heard -
I read somewhere - sorry not sure where - but that we have only seen half of the Planet Earth series.
It's thought the second half either 4 or 6 will be shown in SD before the HD version go out.
...and these more....
I believe the same team have done a special on (some creative spelling coming here) the Galapogos ? Islands wildlife.

Has this arrived in America yet - SCI-FI say Monday 24
or is it too early in the day yet?
If you still have a chance to catch - please do - I loved it.

It starts tonight at 10 pm eastern on BBC America. I'm hoping to tune in...
I also noticed that the Catherine Tate Show was on last weekend, but I didn't get a chance to see it. Maybe next weekend. |

Yep, I mentioned both in the last Aftershock podcast... I have my TiVo set up for tonight's Life on Mars on BBC America... I caught a show and a half of The Catherine Tate Show so far...
Also of note tonight on BBC America they are also showing Spaced with Simon Pegg.
Cheers,

Has anyone else caught the pilot that aired tonight on BBC America? It is interesting... I added the series to my Season Pass on TiVo. The preview of upcoming episodes in the series look interesting as well.
I am a little behind in comparison to Sean since he had already seen the first two episodes back in January. Thanks for the heads-up on the series Sean.
Of course, I was pleased that it was no coincidence that the series is called "Life on Mars" since it does tie into the Bowie song (which had always been one of my favourites).
Cheers,

It was hard to concentrate with all the commerical breaks, but I did enjoy the show and look forward to more.
Tonight they're showing a Paul McGann movie, If I Had You. |

I did not have this problem. I was running a bit late, and thanks to my TiVo, I caught up by the last commercial by fast forwarding through the commercials.
So far, I've been impressed by the first episode. Ah, 1973, I remember it... hazily! |

I'm glad you were impressed. I was hooked to this series from the very first episode and as Doctor Who wasn't currently on it was great to have some 'must see' TV on again!
It did occur to me that maybe some aspects of the programme wouldn't translate to a US audience, some references (maybe in later episodes) seem to be to UK specific things in the 70's.
If you do find any aspects you don't understand chuck a post in here, I'm sure one of us Brits will do our best to explain |

I'm with That Neil Guy, the commercials were a bit distracting, but then again, I also noticed BBC America had shorter commercial breaks during Life on Mars than they normally do (normally, I've got enough time to see a 1/2 inning of baseball during the commercials!). With that in mind, I think I'll just keep taping it and watching after the fact, so all the breaks don't get to me too much!
Really enjoyable show! Of course, I was two in '73, so no memories of this stuff at all....
SPOILER:
Interesting that they caught the bad guy seemingly responsible for the murders/kidnappings in 2006 during the first episode, and then are withholding evidence re: his mental sanity. I'm guessing that won't work to keep the guy out of the mental hospital, otherwise, wouldn't Sam have returned to the present? that's assuming the baddie was given a life sentence w/o the opportunity for parole, I guess. I mean, the cause of his accident which sent him to the past was the new murder case. Then again, maybe he changed the future enough and now the little kid (Colin? Craig? what was his name?) is the murderer instead... that would be an interesting twist.
Really looking forward to the next episode. |
