Yeah, it makes no sense. Deadly violence is completely acceptable portrayed on television... but if you want to portray two people making love or uncovered body parts just as natural as the way we came into this world, it is often censored out. Make war, not love is the attitude it seems. And unfortunately it extends beyond just television censorship in this country.

That's a bit of a simplistic few of how regulation of the television industry works in the US. Although broadcast television is subject to some very strict regulation you also have areas of cable which have virtually no regulation. So what you might see and here depends on channel you are watching. If for example you watch "The Sopranos" or "Oz" or "Deadwood" on HBO you might see plenty of "bits" and hear plenty of f-words.
Of course I'm in Canada where broadcasting is regulated right across the board but the rules are much looser. Here you can have a show like the "Sopranos" on broadcast television unedited or a shows like "Oz" and "Deadwood" on basic cable uncensored.

The real problem is that the quantity and quality of broadcast TV in the States continues its downard trend. The backlash from the "Wardrobe Malfunction" frightened all the Networks. Things had started to loosen up a bit until then. Anyway, these are just some of the reasons that so many folks are giving up on traditional broadcast television.

I never understood why that upset people in America.
Alright it wasn't the right place and it showed poor judgement - but as far as I saw the singer had her nipple covered the whole time so in a sence she was never 'exposed'
On the other hand I can't understand the American Film ratings where 'Jurrasic Park' and 'Casino Royal' etc get rating which let under 12s in to watch.

Well, for some reason, the loud majority still believe they are Puritans. Sex and sexuality is wrong, but violence of any kind is alright. I have to admit that I stopped watching CSI because the gore factor was too high for me.
What I really don't get is, if we cannot have a nipple showing, why do they allow curse words (The "S", the "JC", the "B" - for both male and female) on broadcast TV? Seems a bit unbalanced to me. Though, you can say "d--n" in the US, but you cannot say "G-dd--n." strange |

Here's a chance for people to win a part of 'Life on Mars'
In my local paper - Manchester Evening News - and yes I live in the very same 'Hyde' that Sam comes from.

| Personally, although I am a huge fan of the series and cannot wait to find out what happened to Sam, having read the paper above I am weirdly more interested in the British Sumo ladies! |

It stalls out on me at the 25 second marker... I will try again later or wait until I get home late tonight to give it another whirl.
I do find the text above it warning younger audiences to avoid watching it, quite amusing. Yeah, right, sure... that's will stop them!
