Alex Rider vs MI HIGH Views: 716

Anthony Horowitz for those who do not know has written a series with so far seven books about a reluctant teen spy named Alex Rider. It is dramatic, serious, and fun with lotsa realistic action and great characters. Now I am a James Bond fan from way back but the recent movies of Bond have left me cold...ALEX RIDER is the way to go. The books have villains with world shattering plots, do not go too over the top, and have DANGER with a capital D. Recently BBC (I think) had a show called MI HIGH, which went the othe way. It's over the top, boring, wtih villains that do not seem dangerous, campy jokes and plots...and it's not funny, not entertaining and it's a shame because the idea has potential. FOr me, Alex Rider is it as spies go right now. I've tried other spy books, most of them juvenile fiction (most of those are far better written than the adult-non juvenile stuff). I tried a book series about a group of young spies, a series wiht a young Six Million Dollar Man type, and a few others. James Bond as a teen is a really boring book series. I guess in a way I'm spoiled by Alex Rider. I mean what happens when Horowitz stops writing them...which seems to be the case now!

but did you see the movie for Alex Rider? That wasn't quite the best. Though I did think it would make a good TV series.

IMO the movie was GREAT! The only mis-step was the stupid fight between the two women, that was campy and stupid. They should have not done that, it wasn't in the book and they should have left in the motorcycle chase in the cornfield--THAT would have been scary and well done. Geoffrey Sax was involved with this and I think he had something to do with the DOCTOR WHO TV MOVIE.

The movie was excellent, well cast, well made, the music was great and the fight scenes and action sequences were fantastic. Alex Pettyfer makes a great Alex Rider. As for a tv show: yeah maybe if it has the same quality as the movie, if not, don't bother. I'd hate to see it become like MI HIGH and GET SMART, a campy, satire. ALEX RIDER is not that, Alex's books are smart, intelligent, fun, fast paced, action oriented books in a realistic, dangerous world with SOME sci fi.
