i notice he's not wearing the deerstalker.....

Sherlock Holmes never wore a deerstalker in the books.

they never really say what kind of hat he wears in the books.

[Quote  by:  mad4plaid] What don't understand is why the stills they've been showing (that I've seen) are all from NYC; Brooklyn, I believe. Is Ritchie setting this storying in New York? That doesn't feel right.

they could be filming in new york because there might be a part of the movie where they go to new york.
or when studios film a movie that takes place in another country they sometimes film someplace else. like how the doctor who tv movie was set in San Fransisco but was filmed in Canada.

Really not sure the Downey Jr and Jude Law are right for the role's though. Hmmm... Jude Law must be hugging himself in glee, he's not had a hit for years...

And for my money, the Jeremy Brett/ David Burke Holmes and Watson team is still the bestSmile

Have to agree about the Brett/Burke comment. I got the Complete Works on DVD for my other half this last Christmas and we're currently watching our way through them. I'd forgotten how good Jeremy Brett (God rest his soul) was in the part.

As for Downey/Law - don't have any problems with RJD and Jude Law could surprise us all BUT (and it's a big one)... Guy Ritchie !! Sorry, I'm not a fan.

Saw this promo yesterday and frankly I'm of two minds: most of it looks breathtaking and funny and exciting but parts of it look JUST WRONG. Downey is just wrong as Sherlock is my first impression and Watson also seems miscast is my second impression. The third thing is : why ..I mean what?////I mean is Sherlock Holmes really an ACTION hero?

This might actually be great but if they are trying to pander Sherlock to a young audience by making him an action hero full of derring do...and quippy sex jokes...is that good ? I"m not sure, I'm really asking for an answer.

Since I posted this, I told a friend about the trailer and she not only does't know who RObert Downey Jr is but she is a BIG Sherlock Holmes fan...and she just laughed that it is going to be a big actin movie with Sherlock as an action hero and Watson fairly youngish and with sex jokes.
