New Star Trek Trailer? Views: 2843

There's no "perhaps" about it. That's the only consideration, cause without a significant influx of new viewers, there's little financial reason to make the film. Star Trek X is the financial disaster that awaits filmmakers just trying to please existing fans. Still, the latest version of the trailer should make old school fans a bit happier.

But I kinda don't know why you are hoping the new film flops. If it flops I think it will because it isn't any good. But I want it to soar, because I'm sure that will be a sign it has something new and fresh to offer. I'm also wondering how much of a somewhat alternate universe this new Trek film will inhabit. I don't think it will be as drastic as the the BSG re-envisioning, but still it obviously won't all all established canon to a tee.

Anyway, what my point really is, I think the discussion of Trek's future on television is a somewhat different 1 than what it should be at the movies. Right now I'm looking for some explosive (big budget) fun from a new Trek movie. At least 3 of the 4 next gen movies seemed like overblown 2 part TV episodes. Other than more ship interior sets what live locales do we get to visit? A desert in 10 that looks remarkably like the SW US? Ho-hum alien planet in Insurrection? Even though the whole 'Vette chase in the trailer almost makes no sense it sure is fun. How long have we had to wait to finally get a true or more realistic glimpse of Earth in Kirk's time? I'm excited about this upcoming movie, very excited.

I s'pose it is a bit harsh of me saying that I hope it flops... I want to enjoy it when I go and see it. I totally agree with you about the Next Gen films. This is, in a way, why I wish they had gone straight for a new television series with a new producer and team (Rick Berman and Brannon Braga did some astounding work on the Next Gen but really ran out of ideas by the time of voyager and definately with Enterprise). I will change my view and hope that the film succeeds only so a new series is made. As for the alternative universe thing. There was none of Leonard Nimoy in the trailer so his participation is yet to be revealed (to me, anyway) but is an intriguing aspect!

Does anybody know whether Rick Berman is involved in the new film?

    Anyhow, that's all from me!

[Quote  by:  Dalzo] Do we really need more Kirk et al? We have had 3 years (4 if you include the animated Series) and 6 (and a half) movies. Why not take the Star Trek universe forward?

Because everyone, and i mean EVERYONE, even people who aren't fans of the show or haven't seen a single episode can relate to Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Bones, Scotty, Uhura, Mr. Sulu and Chekov in one way or another.

"Beam Me Up Geordi" doesn't have the same ring as the eccentric Scottish guy with an affinity for his machine. (Although the line "Beam me up Scotty" was never actually said in the series, i'll bet they stick it in somewheres!)

But my point is, if they continued making movies with new cast, then, as previously stated on this thread, it'll only be accessible by older fans, who may not take the movie to a higher grossing value as new fans, and, in the current movie biz, would be seen as yet another Star Trek movie flop!

Myself, i'm excited to see the background stories of the crew, as long as they dont do an Enterprise and frak it up!!!

Actually, yeah there is, in the alternative version of the trailer Paramount released.

Thanks Taras... I read a lot people tweeting about the new trailer, but no one posted a link to it and it didn't peak my interest enough to actively seek it out. I figured eventually the mountain will come me.

Thanks for bringing me the mountain. Now, that's a good friend.

    Cheers,
    Louis

You can go to this website:

    Trailers: Star Trek

    and watch the trailers there.

Since it is an apple website, quicktime would probably work best for viewing.

I have to say that after having been initially quite sceptical about the 'prequel idea' (never really got on with the Star wars prequels or Enterprise), these trailers have actually got me all of a quiver.
