Has anyone seen the preview to CBS's new fall show "Threshold"? CBS must have missed the X-Files or The 4400 boat, so they've created Threshold. Friday nights have always been the death blow for Sci-Fi on 'broadcast' TV.
I give it 12 episodes. |

I haven't seen the preview, or know anything about the show. The only regular national network broadcast television I watch is... hmm... hold on, let me think... hmm... let's see, CBS, NBC, ABC, I'll even throw in FOX, UPN, and WB.... so the only show I watch is...
Hey what do you know? I don't think I watch any! LOL

| I thought the idea of the show was good, but the idea that an sound frequency being used to genetically changing the structure and anything that was exposed to it was on the lame factor of 10. If it had been something else doing the alteration then I think that I would have enjoyed the show. So for the most part I was not to disappointed with it getting canceled. |

Ken has commented his distaste for it in various Podshock episodes... I've never bothered with it. I never seen it... or even know when it is on. If it wasn't even for Ken mentioning it from time to time, I would still never have heard of it.
But as I stated back in August, remains true today, that I hardly ever find myself watching regular "network television" these days. Perhaps new episodes of The Simpsons and The Family Guy and that's about it.
Another series I never heard of or seen when it was on, was Firefly. I saw a promo of it which was included in one of the Battlestar Galactica DVD sets, and nothing I saw really grabbed me.
Cheers,

Louis,
Firefly seems to have a phenominal following, and quite possibly is more popular as a "cult status symbol" than Doctor Who here in the States. The reason for much of its popularity is that fans of Joss Whedon believe he can do no wrong. But I did not tune in because of Whedon. I was never into Buffy until I tried it a few months ago. I think I avoided it because of its popularity. So I approached Firefly with a clean slate. I tuned in late (Friday nights... urgh!) and caught the two hour pilot, the last episode to be broadcast before cancellation. It can be summarized as a frontier-based character-driven action/drama. The scripts are well written, and the lighting and cinematography were original, award winning and trend setting. When the DVDs came out, I was kicking myself for missing this series in broadcast. Just remember, RTD mentions Buffy a lot when he discusses the his updating of Doctor Who, and with good reason. There is no reason for sci-fi not to have great drama writing at its core. That is where Firefly excels. The characters are extremely deep and well fleshed out. And since they are just ordinary people in extraordinary situations, people tend to relate to them better than to the military brass of most sci-fi dramatis personae.

Hey Taras,
I too avoided Buffy due to it's popularity... well, I think initially I just avoided it because I couldn't get passed the name of the show... (it's hard to take anything seriously with the name 'Buffy' in the title, unless it's a comedy of course).
I know Buffy had (has) a huge following... and I have come to see the same thing with the Firefly series. Perhaps I will give it a shot if I ever stumble across it... but I don't think it is being shown anymore (unless the reruns are on the Sci-Fi Channel perhaps). Still, nothing I had seen in the promo disc included in one of the Battlestar Galactica DVD box sets really grabbed me... It all looked like stuff I have seen before... (i.e. nothing all that original to it). But hey, I could be wrong, I have been in the past.
I know of others that are kicking themselves for not watching Firefly when it was on after discovering it later on DVD.
It seems like series can find another life on DVD these days (as noted with The Family Guy and Futurama recently).
Cheers,

Firefly had a run (of reruns) on Sci-fi last year in the run up to the release of the movie Serenity. It was then on Fridays at 7 pm.

| I think another reason may have been that the Buffy movie was made in a camp fashion, and was, basically, a joke. That may have been another factor.
