Unfortunately, last year we lost David Jackson who played Gan in the series.

Matthew Graham discusses Blake's 7 in DWM 370... in addition to all the other stuff he had on his plate.

| I broke down and bought the region 2 dvds of Blake's Seven. I only had the episodes on beta tapes and I was tired of waiting for the region 1 dvd's. |

I'm glad I didn't try to collect the NTSC VHS tapes... at $10 per episode (on average) that would have been expensive...

| that's really cool, Sean. I've been considering getting a divx enabled player for a long time, because every time I try to play a downloaded dvd, my player skips minutes at a time. |

[Quote by: seanhuxter] I recently bought a Philips DVP642 for $60 at WalMart.
I bought it because it plays DivX and MPG4 formats.
I've successfully been able to watch downloaded Doctor Who episodes I've burned to DVD, quite nicely on my TV because of this machine.
But as an extra bonus I discovered it's Region Free if you know the codes.
Turn it on with no DVD in the tray. Push 789 on the remote, and a hand will appear. Then type the region you want (0 for region free).
I have tested it with a R2 Earthshock DVD I bought on eBay last year (when I had another region free player which died on mey a week later.)

I bought a Phillips DvD player recently and you're right they're nice and easy to hack.
Unfortunately I returned it within 24 hours when I found out that it would not play DvD audio (which has been standard with DvD players for about 1,000 years.)So I had to choose betwixt the player and my collection of 5:1 suurround sound discs.....
I changed it for a Toshiba player (almost as easy to hack.) |

Blake's 7 is another example of a U.S. company missing the boat. Why are they not available in region 1???
|
|
Because it's even more obscure than Doctor Who in the US, maybe? It's hard to imagine a profit model that could support the release of the show on DVD in the US. Pretty sure there are whole states where it's never been broadcast. There are even more where it hasn't been broadcast in over 20 years. Seriously, there are pipe dreams and then there are p i p e d r e a m s.
Still, if Darrow ever gets his film project off the ground, it could easily make it to DVD in the States. |

| I just picked up a new Philips 622 dvd player at Walmart and it was easily set to be region free. I checked and I was able to watch my Blake's 7 dvds without any problem on my NTSC television. |

I was doing just that back in the late 90's, then they announced that they would be coming to DVD as region 1 discs. This even foreshadowed Doctor Who being released on DVD in North America... So I stopped purchasing them on tape as I rather have them in an optical format and they were not available on LDs. Now 8 years later or so, and I am still waiting for the B7 DVD releases here in North America... Grrr...
If you want them released as region 1 DVDs here in North America, all I need to do is purchase them all on region 2 PAL discs, and within a couple of weeks they will announce region 1 versions.
Cheers,

As mentioned in Podshock 60 - the Cult of Blake's 7 - the 'signed version is a late night reshowing where superinposed on the side of the show is a person 'signing' the show for deaf or hard of hearing viewers.
