snipped - info - thanks
I've been back to the Skype home page and onto the 'payments' page and dailed calls to the USA from the UK are just over 1p a minute. So yesterdays podcast which with the 'tinkering and setup' plus podcast time was about 1hr 20 mins or so would be a total cost of 90pence - 1.50 in dollars & cents.
That's OK.
I already have a PayPal account - which seems to be a good way of 'buying' phone credit.
So before next week I'll probably upgrade my Skype and take part that way.
Let's hope sorting out the 'mic' etc. will be OK as well.
Thanks DarthSkeptical - hope all this chatter will help otheres get their heads around it all.
Cheers, daveac |

Sorry to follow myself - but just thought (Yes I know it's a slow process ) - that to 'solve' or get around the 'mic' problem AND the payment problem - I and other UK hopefuls might get something like this:-
here
An 'Internet phone handset which costs 7.50 UKPs (thats about 12 dollars) is USB and comes with a call voucher - for 5UKPs I think.

Just to follow along Dave's thought, there are many such devices in the states as well. Usually packaged with Vonage or Skype signup software. Wish there was a way to test out Talkshoe before a live recording though. I was in on the text chat side of things, and that alone is a boon to Podcasters. With the combined knowledge of the listeners to draw on there is no limit to how smart they can sound . |

Hi Dave,
I hope the buying Skype Credit works for you, and look forward to hearing from you on next week's podcast.
I'm the listener who made a comment towards the end of the podcast, I'm interested to hear how my sound came through (haven't re-listened to the podcast yet).
FYI I was dialled in from my cellphone, using a bluetooth headset (actually bluetooth headphones with a built-in mic) on the cellphone. I'm in the US, so the call was covered by my cellular minutes.
First time I tried dialling-in, Talkshoe refused to recognise my Talkshoe PIN, but I redialled and it worked fine second time.
I have a convoluted speaker/mic set-up on my computer for Skype, and wasnt quite shure how that'd play with Talkshoe, which is why I used the cellphone instead.
Anyway, technical details aside, it was really fun listening in, and fun (even if I was a little nervous!) piping in with my comments. As they say on talk radio - "long time listener, first time caller" :-)

While I work to wrap my head around the instructions for voice participation with TalkShoe, could someone post a quick how-to for text participation? I think I should start out with that first before I start juggling software, headsets, cell phones, cats, and significant others wanting to use the computer...

Hi Craig - you came through fine - glad you got sorted out.
I went to Tescos (supermarket) to buy the handset - they sell them online but that would take a free days and I wanted to play - I mean - try it out chatting with my son. However they didn't have any in stock.
But I now thought that using a 'phone' I'll have to type with one finger rather than my 'speedy' two fingers.
So I may just but some credit for now - I can always get the phone with more credit later.
Now a little telling off - you joined 12/10/05?
I suppose that's 10th Dec but looks like 12th Oct to us Brits - and you've only made 17 posts!!
Come on get posting - we're up to Series 3 - so plenty to have opinions on.
Cheers, daveac |

some snipping
Right I've bought 10UKPs of Skype credit (with VAT thats 11.70 UKPs) so thats about 18 dollars credit.
EDIT - it's 11.50 not 11.70
I've added 'Live Podcast' as a contact with 17244447444
as the dial number.
I take it I will then have to put in the ID 23358?
I suppose that number stays the same and doesn't change with each week.
And of course I also need TalkShoe running.

I think having TalkShoe running is optional, but may help if you have technical difficulties. |

I believe you are correct Taras. The TalkShoe phone number is acting as a host for the Skype calls, but the text chat does require the application. |

A reminder to everyone... If you would like to join us live for another live podcast we will be doing it again on Sunday at 1pm (EDT - US) for our review of Gridlock.
Unfortunately, Ken will not be able to join us this weekend again. He is well, just very busy lately.
Listen live or join in the discussion, all are welcomed.
Cheers,
