After spending the past year (or whatever it is) listening to Podshock, there seems to be some rivalry between the Mac users on the show and the Windows users on the show. Where is the love guys? I shudder to think what will happen when I tell you I'm a linux user. Don't beat me too hard. |

Well, the ribbing is all in good fun. Actually, it all stems from the horrible bit rates of the videos on the BBC site...

Well I'm sure Louis will point it out, or maybe he's to modest, but the displays on the Tardis console do look suspiciously like 20" iMacs - but then do you think the Doctor or Gallifreyan's would use plain old Windows PC's...
"Warning - Critical System Error
We are sorry to inform you that Microsoft Windows must now close down due to a critical system error. Your Tardis will now fall out of the vortex and unfortunatly you cannot save your state so that you can easily restore your place in time and the relative dimensions in space you presently occupy. Thankyou for using Microsoft. Have a nice day"
Seriously though - if you watch the condfidentials closely then you'll notice that the BBC use a lot of display screens during filming and, if the film crew catch them inbetween takes when they are not playing back the graphics we see on TV, then they are all running Windows XP.
If your a Linux fan then you simple must must must listen to http://www.lugradio.org/ although like the vast majority of podcasts which sound absolutely fantastic, like Podshock and like TWIT, well even though Lugradio is all about Linux it is edited and mastered on a... on a MAC |

I have heard good things about Ubuntu.
A couple years ago, I rescued a couple old PCs (from the late 90s) from going into a dumpster. Whenever I have some time (yeah... right) I plan on putting Linux OS on them just for the fun of it.
Cheers,

I'm a big Gentoo freak myself, but there are lots of other reasons to run other distros as well. They're all the same, deep down, just with subtle differences to the outer shell. I also like Redhat Fedora 5 (good all around distribution), Ubuntu (good distro for people who want an easy to use/install machine - good visual introduction to Linux), and SuSE 10 (same as Redhat in a lot of ways). |

I myself use an Emac at work but use Windows XP at home. NOw that I have strated my own podcast I wish I had a Mac to edit and record the show on with Garageband. I have had a heck of a time finding a tool to record through Skype with in XP. I found it but it was alot of trial and error.

Russel,
You've got it backwards. You're supposed to have a PC in the office and a Mac at home. We all know people have more time to play PC games at work. Some actually get payed for it.

AH yes Tara to to be able to work at a website like Gamespot and get paid to play video games, now there would be a fun job. Just call me Mr. reverse I guess. I play games at home and just use the computer for work at work.
Cheers,

I’ve always wanted a Mac, but never have had the pleasure. With the arrival of Vista next year I’m going to have a choice, upgrade or jump ship.
I’ve tried a live distribution of Ubuntu 5.10 but despite my best efforts could not get my PC to run it. Shame really.
