Great podshock yet again - but only just over two hours - I NEED MORE!
One point on the Torchwood comments - spoiler space
The Cardiff Torchwood is Torchwood 3 - they are 'a small band' because Torchwood 1 was wiped out.
I do agree with the comments about it being a 'secret' yet the name is banded about everywhere (although the one on the headquarters wall is related to it being the old underground rail entrance.)
As for the car - I don't like those 'Knight Rider' blue lights either - unless on some future story we find out that they are some form of 'alien radar'
Loved the John Pertwee interview - a man of many talents.
Cheers, daveac |

I know, it is only 123 minutes long... I was considering rolling the Torchwood reviews off on their own as an Aftershock podcast which would have slimmed down the running time, but since we reference Torchwood throughout the episode, it made more sense to just keep it in. Although there were no clips from either Torchwood episode included in this podcast due to the fact that adding them would only have made it longer.
Our next podcast, Episode 58 is another special edition... We will see where it comes in... (in terms of running time).
Hey, it is the anniversary month of Doctor Who... we can splurge a little.
As always, thanks for the kind words about the podcast and interview. Jon Pertwee was always a pleasuring meeting in person... especially when he could interact with others from the cast and crew. We sure miss him.
Cheers,

pleasuring I always loved his 5 year run as the Doctor and know him to be a proper English Gentleman, but that sounds a little to 51st. century for him. Great show and yeah an aftershock for Torchwood soundas like a good idea. |

Oops! I meant "pleasure" -- I think my 51st century fingers have a mind of their own on the keyboard sometimes.
I like Jon Pertwee... but not exactly in that way.

Excellent show, and all I have to say regarding Torchwood is "I'm glad I'm not the only one!" I was starting to feel like the exception, not the rule regarding my opinion of this show and it's failure to live up to it's pedigree.
It was a delight to hear the classic Pertwee interview. If you guys have more stuff like this, bring it on. I can't believe you've had stuff like this in the vaults and we just now get to hear it!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to put on a trenchcoat and stand on my roof for no reason at all.
Too soon? |

Totally off topic hdutch007 but looking at your avtiar - on the Channel Five station here in the UK tonight was a regular programme called 'The Gadget Show'
here
The item won't be up on their webpage yet but one of the presenters was showing off - wearing - a full Star Wars Storm Troopers outfit - with the headpiece made from the original film molds.
You can buy them - the price - 1200 UKPs (nearly 2000 dollars!)

| That's an awful lot of money, Dave! I'll just pick up a Rubies costume helmet at some point. But that's still very cool. |

| Great show! It was great to hear from Jon Pertwee again. His passion for life and action was in full display. Of course, it's also a sad reminder of the many losses we've experienced in the Who Universe. |

Thanks... We decided being that this is the anniversary month for Doctor Who, we will dig into the archives for the next episode of Doctor Who: Podshock as well.
There are other little gems in our vaults that will eventually find their way to the podcast. Sadly though there even other items that should be in the archive vaults that now seem to be "missing in action" -- or at least just missing. It's very frustrating... a bunch of interviews, including more of those individuals who are no longer with us... just can't be found. I am hoping they will indeed turn up some day though. It figures... just like Doctor Who the television series, we too have "missing tapes" - sigh. At least we are sure we did not record over them though.
Cheers,

Loved it, again. Thanks for the Pertwee interview (I would have loved to see him and Mr. Doohan on the same stage!).
I have to ask - and maybe there's just no answer - but WHY is the soundtrack to "Chariots of Fire" playing in the background of the interview? I found myself whistling Vangelis for no reason at all and then realized where it was coming from - what's the subliminal message here?
Sorry if you talked about this on the show - I had to turn off before the feedback section. |

I was wondering about that "atmosphere" music as well! I figured it was put in there when the interview was new back in the day, and is now a nice moment frozen in time: when Chariots of Fire was cool.
okay, it was never cool. We should be demanding an answer.

You have to remember we did this interview on the Destinies radio show back in the day (1986). The background music was put in there by the radio show, not us. We received the audio from the radio show (and we are grateful for it and being able to share it with our listeners), so the interview had the "Chariots of Fire" background music already embedded in it. I did try to subdue it a bit, but since it was all on one track, including the vocal track, there was no way to eliminate it completely.
As to why they choose that selection of music to play in the background? Well, that is a question to be addressed to Destinies, the radio show. I could ask Howard Margolin, the producer/host of Destinies, but I am not sure if he will recall being that it was more than 20 years ago now. (Damn, where does the time go... it really doesn't fell that long ago).
I am a Vangelis fan, but ironically I am not all that keen on Chariots of Fire (not that I dislike it, I just prefer his other work better). I have several of his albums, but not Chariots.
Cheers,

Thanks, Louis, I figured it was something like that. It's just such a wierd choice for background music. My best guess is that they thought they were playing the "Blade Runner" soundtrack, since that's science fiction, and "Destinies" was a sci fi show...
Was this a radio program that you listened to back then? Did they often back the interviews with unrelated music? |
