I think this will do well internationally, I wonder if the US will take it up? I can see it doing well there. But time will tell I suppose.

Great - do you think some countries might have trouble with the sex and bad language?

One things for certain this is a post-watershed programme.

Here's an image capture from the show (not a spoiler)

    Cheers, daveac

I'd be interested in hearing what our US friends thought of the episodes

I presume the BBC will be see what the reaction is here before they consider trying to sell it overseas.

Does anyone know if Canda is coproducing TW?

I wonder if that's "a fightin' hand" too?!!

    Oh! an excellent thought.

Yes - their name was at the very end of the titles.

Great screen cap Dave! I just wish they had dropped the DOG for these episodes. There was one scene in the first episode with Cpatain Jack to the left of the screen and he had 'BBC Three Brand New' right across his face. Minority Report is on now and there's no sign of the DOG at all - not even the basic BBC Three logo!!

Presumably they're going on the assumption that Tom Cruise is enough of a distraction to the viewers' enjoyment in that movie.

    Thanks.

I think they are making the most of promoting BBC3 on the back of this.

I will probably record it again on BBC2 on Wednesday - that should be at a higher bit-rate and with no DOG.

On the subject of sex and language - I suppose that might be an issue in the US. From what I gather they it's far stricter on sex and bad language over there....

....They do like a nice bit of violence though!

What gets me is John Barrowman is in his forties - but looks ten years younger.

Perhaps there's something in this Time-travelling thing!

[Quote  by:  Abersoch] Ok so it's an appalling pun but what are people's views on the severed hand? There was definitely a burst of the "Flavia theme" from Doctor Who when Jack ran over to save it, so the question must be - what does he want to do with it and will it play any further significance in the series?

Having today also watched the last part of 'Jane Eyre' I can hear the words uttered by the blinded Mr Rochester 'that's Jane Eyre's hand... I'd recognise it anywhere...Jane have you come back to me?'

Or it could be the Sherriff of Nottingham saying 'Bring me the hand of Robin Hood!'

Cheers - with a nudge and a wink - daveac

I must be slow as molasses or something, I didn't twig the Doctor Who references (the hand and indestructibility) until I came on here! This is definitely a very different animal to DW. Liking it a lot so far!

I believe John Barrowman is 39... But still, I do agree he looks younger (not that I am complaining at all). Smile

Yeah, it would either be edited down or what I was thinking was that it could even play well on cable/satellite services here in the US. For example, the Ricky Gervais series Extras from BBC 2, were shown here in the States on HBO, a premium cable/satellite movie channel.

I would rather see it given it's fair due uncut here in the States that way, than to see it hacked up to fit what US networks deem "acceptable" for general viewing on terrestrial TV or basic cable.

    Cheers,
    Louis

A bit of a blow that the first Torchwood Declassified is on at 2:40 in the morning, shortly after the first repeat.

It's available on the BBC website and by "other means". (As no doubt are episodes 1 and 2.)

Wondered about the hand - and like you I thought of Christmas, especially when it is deemed that important....but I'd have expected it to splat falling from that height !!
What's the terminal velocity of a Time Lord's hand? It also depends what it hit when it landed...

I think it also depends on what it's made of. When the Doctor loses his hand in In The Christmas Invasion and we see it falling away, it appears to be made from the same material as - say - a cheap, plastic shop-window dummy hand, so presumably it wouldn't go splat. Wink
