The camera slowly pans out with Captain Jack and Ianto facing away from the camera, Captain Jack sitting on the right, his right hand moving, and Ianto sitting to his left, his left hand moving up and down...

Hmmm... thanks Liyster, I would imagine for something like that you wouldn't want to be the fastest.
Cheers,

I'm thinking its time for ya'll to brush up on your classical literature. According to Chaucer, in Canterbury Tales, a woman's level of eroticness, desirability, and even sexual skills was directly porportional to the space between her teeth (see Wife of Bath). Therefore, Gwen's rate quite high.
Also, some Celtic folklore states that women with gaps in their teeth are more psychic and empathic than others.

You took the words right out of my mouth! I'm glad I'm not the only one who knew those bits of folklore.
Great episode, by the way. Seriously though, I don't consider myself naive but I can only think of one or two kinky uses for two men and a stopwatch... I guess I'll have to wait till the DVD commentary comes out and hope that they explain what they meant. |
|
Just glanced over at what the wife was watching (The Little Girl Who Lived Down the Lane) and low and behold a young member of the gap tooth clan appeared, Jodie Foster. I haven't looked at Contact, Silence of the Lambs, Panic Room or Flightplan in a while so I don't remember if or when it was later corrected, but I had forgotten entirely that she (an american actress) had that appearance. Horray for her! |

I bet you'd never see an American actress with a gap - could become the tooth equivalent of a beauty spot
|

I don't know. There's the lovely Jorja Fox who plays Sarah on CSI: The Original. Maybe not quite as a defined gap as Gwen, but there nonetheless.

p.s. I'd have just post an IMG SRC link, but I wasn't sure if that's how people were posting images in here and I don't have time to research it.
Ok. Copied an IMG SRC link out of one of Dave's posts.

And let's not forget Lauren Hutton, the 70s model. She kept her gap, as well. Granted, I understand she actually had a removable set of caps made so when photographers had issues w/ her gap she could cover it up.
And now back to the Ianto/Jack/stopwatch thing.
I, like Louis and the rest of us (I'm guessing), didn't see any inkling that Ianto was a switch-hitter, so the stopwatch comment is still seeming out of place to me. Assuming the stopwatch is a sexual reference, of course. I don't mind the comments towards homoeroticism in this show. What I do mind, in hindsight, is that it appears to me that this line was added just so ALL the characters have now had a same sex encounter -- or have had a same sex encounter alluded to:
- Premier: Owen picks up a girl AND her boyfriend
- Day One: Gwen mashes with the possessed girl
- Greeks Bearing Gifts: Tosh "finds heaven" with an alien who steals hearts to live (not figuratively either)
- They Keep Killing Susie: Ianto seems to be getting it on w/ Jack in the tunnels after night.
In total, it just seems a bit... pushing boundaries just because you can. So, I guess I'll just keep telling myself that Ianto and Jack were playing timed chess. We all know that Jack is omni-, but Ianto was definitely straight; what could be the reason to change that character? |

I've figured it out... The reason everybody knows about Torchwood is that Torchwood is the cover story. What we have here is a casual sex club which uses the investigation of alien artefacts and phenomena as a blind. You heard it here first! They're a Royal Society of Nymphs and Satyrs!!! |
