Plot Holes in Torchwood vs. Doctor Who Views: 848
     Friday, March 21 2008 @ 08:02 AM EDT
I had a conversation with a friend from this board regarding Torchwood and she said that she couldn't tolerate the plot holes in episodes of Torchwood but that for some reason she doesn't mind plot holes as much in Doctor Who.

That got me thinking, because of our original love affair with the Doctor and the Tardis are we more lenient if Doctor Who has plot holes or have we just become so meh about Torchwood, we expect there to be plot holes in each episode even if there aren't or they are minor compared to ones we may see in Doctor Who from time to time.

What are your takes on this?

    I can tolerate neither!
Television is Television at the end of it, it's there to entertain us, and a GOOD show/movie will change the way we think about or perceive things. They shouldn't have us asking questions about production or plot holes while we're watching it.

Although the basic plot and premise of Torchwood has more holes in it than swiss cheese, and constantly changes/contradicts itself every week, I bring the same opinion to every show i watch, even great shows such as Doctor Who or BSG or Lost or Heroes alike, although it's obvious which one i prefer, i still cant stand plot holes.

Are we talking about plots contained within one particular story, or overall across the entire run of the series?

If the latter, perhaps one might tolerate plot holes and continuity errors in Doctor Who more is because it has been around for so long. It is expected that there will be some from time to time as it is about to celebrate it's 45th anniversary this year. Whereas Torchwood is only in its second series right now.

If you meant the former, meaning plot holes within particular story/episode.. Well, one might be more forgiving to DW if that is where your heart is (or hearts). In other words, it is part of your family. Just like one may be more forgiving to a family member erroneous mistakes than a stranger's.

    Cheers,
    Louis
