OG item:-
Actor Bruce Purchase has died at his home in London at the age of 69.
Brian Purchase, who was born in Thames, New Zealand, was best known to Doctor Who viewers for his role as The Captain in the fourth Doctor story The Pirate Planet.
I really liked that story - especially the concept.

I met him at I-con years ago. He was good friends with Sylvester McCoy and Sly invited him along. He also appeared in The Tripods and Blake's 7 as well.

That is too bad. He certainly seemed to me to be a memorable character, not just in terms of his part in the story, but in terms of the actor's portrayal as a whole. There are only a few characters in my mind (most from the TB era) that stand out above all others among the history of Who: The Captain - Pirate Planet, Henry Gordon Jago - Talons(actor recently seen in The Unicorn and the Wasp), and Graff Vynda-K (Ribos Op). They may not have been the most popular characters in any who era, but the actors who portrayed them certainly made their presence known.

I agree with all the above. Only watched this six weeks ago and loved every second including robot dog v robot parrot. It's a sad day and the Captina will be missed especially by Mr Fibuli, I'm sure!
