In the past I've been very hard on this story so I'll try to find the good with the bad. The new console room looks great, much better than most of what's been of late in the 70s that is. Hartnell's original large control room is my favorite probably.

The effects are okay and best in DW but let's face it, SPACE: 1999 had been doing this kind of thing on a regular basis for two years and two years eariler than this and looked much, much better than this. It looks like what it is: model work.

That said, I've never been convinced by DW interior spaceships in the old series: they look like rooms, much like the interior of the mining ship in ROBOTS OF DEATH. That said, this one looks better than the one in PLANET OF EVIL. Some of the work from the windows outward looks good but again, this was done better in the Irwin Allen shows in the 1960s.

The interaction between Tom and Louise is still good but he's a bit frosty toward her, the character and actor, I'm not sure which or maybe both (?). He calls her a savage at one point and doens't seem to respect her---as he did in HORROR OF FANG ROCK---intiution.

Most of the sets on Titan look colorful and clear cut. The actors do a good job. And it's not totally silly yet. K9 hasn't yet appeared...and I like K9 so that isn't meant to be a slight. The hairy eyebrows and hands are silly (eyebrows) and creepy (hands). The Doctor being taken over is a great idea but here it seems underplayed or underused but maybe in the next episode?

Another thing I don't get is why didn't the Nucleus just take over the other men instead of killing them?

The cliffhanger is okay. There, I've been somewhat positive...but wait till they shrink and go inside the Doctor's brain. That's not only a rip off of FANTSIC VOYAGE but of the FANTASTIC VOYAGE cartoon where they go into Guru's brain and find the world of fantasy and myth.

Anyway, ep1 isn't too bad and effects are okay. Leela kills someone by throwing a knife in the back.
