Hot off the Press
BBC website state that the next DVD to be released is the Hand of Fear (confirming rumours). It is expected late July (in UK).
This release is keeping with the Sarah Jane theme.
Contents per BBC website:-
This single-disc DVD (currently scheduled for release on 31 July, although this date is subject to change) boasts some impressive special features:
* Commentary by Tom Baker (the Doctor), Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith), Judith Paris (Eldrad), Bob Baker (Co-writer), Philip Hinchcliffe (Producer).
* Changing Times: A 50-minute documentary charting the special relationship between the Doctor and his companion Sarah Jane Smith.
* Swap Shop: A very rare clip of Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen's appearance on the first ever edition of Noel Edmonds' Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, shown in October 1976.
* PDFs of the 1977 Doctor Who Annual and the Radio Times listings for The Hand of Fear.
* Photo gallery, continuity announcements, information text subtitles and an Easter Egg.
Regards

I watched this recently. It was the first time I had watched it since in was orignally broadcast. I thought it had stood the test of time really well. It reminded me about I fancied Sarah Jane when I was younger ! she still looks great on the DVD apart from sdome of the clothes she has to wear.

Hand of Fear was the very first Doctor Who serial I ever saw!
And I got it this past Thursday...
Sarah looked lovely in her overalls and good Lord Judith Paris as Eldrad was wow!

Yes, he gets a summons from Gallifrey and he has to leave Sarah behind.
They had a No Non-Timelords Allowed rule.

Not to be confused with Eldred from the Patrick Troughton serial The Seeds of Death. Which is not to be confused with the Tom Baker serial The Seeds of Doom!

Hand of Fear is one of my favorite TBaker stories, too. However I had a problem with its tie-in to School Reunion and SJS's reaction to seeing The Doctor again. In Reunion, she seemed mad/hurt that he left her and forgot about her without saying goodbye and such. I don't know about anybody else, but I got the impression from the end of Hand of Fear that there wasn't any ambiguity about it. I felt like she knew he wasn't coming back anytime soon (if at all) and that this was goodbye as far as they both were concerned.

Must say I didn't gather that from "Hand of Fear". I think the ending is quite ambiguous. She didn't want to go, after all. I got the sense of happy-ish resignation. No, the Doctor doesn't say anything like, "I'll be back after I get done with Gallifrey"—but she knows it's a time ship. He could reappear before she got back to Croydon, as far as she knew. Certainly, he makes the promise to "not forget about her", which she has to assume he in fact did. He's been gone for decades by the time he pops back up, having only apparently remembered her enough to leave her K9 fairly soon after their parting. For all we know, she's actively been trying to use K9 to contact the Doctor, which is why she seems especially cheered by the inclusion of a device that would seem to enable such communication in K9 Mark IV.

The commentary on this one is a lot of fun with Tom Baker flirting unabatedly with Judith Paris (female Eldrad).
