| Simple question: which Romana do you prefer and why? |

Mary Tamm!
Principally because I found Ms Ward's Romana annoying. |

Sorry, has to be Romana II. Romana I was a nice statue, but that was about it. Nice to look at.
Well so was Lalla Ward, but in a different way. And she had personality.
I still have a huge crush on Lall Ward. Richard Dawkins is a lucky guy, I say!

| I think the teaming of Tom Baker and Lalla Ward will be hard to beat! These are the episodes from the "classic" series that I will be introducing to two of the newer Doctor Who converts - my wife and 15 year old nephew. |

Romana II (Lala Ward) as well here. The chemistry between Tom Baker and Lala Ward was simply there... on screen and off..
When I think of Romana, it is Lala Ward who comes to my mind first. Always.
No disrespect for Mary Tamm's version. I like her as well. But as I said above, the chemistry was simply there and can be seen on screen with Ward and Baker. I also had a sense that Ward liked the character better... I don't know if that was the case or not, but she just made her more believable and real in my eyes.
Cheers,

I never really thought about this, but I did happen to have a pic of Mary Tamm on my computer and use it for this site so I guess without thinking, Mary Tamm did have more of an impact on me. And I know this has nothing to do with character, but Mary Tamm's hat was better. |

I simply have seen more stories with Mary Tamm, nothing against Ward. I am sure Tom Baker preffered her...

When it comes to beauty, both are equally lovely in my book. I would have given this a draw but if pushed to make a decision, I'd say Ward because by then Romana was more of an equal with the Doctor. And this is with the Key of Time season being one of my favorites that got me hooked on the show.
I'd love to see the character come back. If the Doctor is gonna make a love connection with a companion, this is the perfect choice.

No responses to this in awhile so I'll add my two cents.
I always loved the first Romona. I think Mary played a Timelady fresh from the academy very well. I was so bummed out she didn't stick around another season. |

That must explain why Tom Baker married Lalla Ward... |

Definitely Lalla Ward. Simply stunning. She was my first boyhood crush as well. |

Wow, talk about timely. You were just talking about having an actor play a character in Army of Ghosts and then returning to be a companion the next season and that's exactly what happened with Lalla Ward. Right from Armageddon Factor at the end of one season to being a companion the next.
I think that's one reason why I prefer Mary Tamm. I didn't like how Romana was able to choose her next form and I didn't like that they were changing a character I liked into someone from an earlier episode who I didn't think was that great. I think Lalla Ward went on to do a respectable job, I just was always partial to Mary Tamm's version. |

| Though I remember Lalla Ward the most from watching Tom baker repeats as a young child in the 80s, now that I've seen every story from this era again I must say I love Mary Tamm. They were both great actresses, though. |

Mary Tamm
No offense to Lalla Ward sort of, she got on my nerves and she made some insulting comments in a recent interview and my view of her dimmed more!
Least Mary knows the axiom, 'if you can't say anything nice say nothing at all'.

Would have been awkward, seeing as she was pregnant. Would have given the show a bit of a twist eh? All those threads about "The Kiss" would have an entirely diffrent tone .
