So what do we think? A fair result overall or not? |

Survival was the big surprise, for mine. 4th seems very generous.
And I think Stephen Wyatt got a bit ripped off. I think Greatest Show in the Galaxy should easily be in the Top 5 - a creepy mood, scary villain, lots of great ideas and visuals with the kites tracking flowerchild and bellboy and scary clowns driving a hearse through the desert... For me the only thing that brings it down is the seemingly endless passages of the Doctor and Ace eating goop with the stall lady early on in the story. And Paradise Towers is a story that has grown on me as I've gotten older, definitely deserves a higher place than some of the stories above it.
But at the end of the day, I reckon the top 2 were fairly predictable, and certainly Remembrance is a worthy winner.
And thanks to Tin Dog for starting the game! It's very addictive! |

I doubt the finished list chimes completely with anyone's personal list. I don't think many people will have complaints about Time and the Rani's position though.
The voting was a tough choice as, for the McCoy era I have a few serials I like parts of and then it's a case of serials I hate the least rather than like particularly.
I was pretty certain 'Fenric or Remembrance would win, though I don't really like Remembrance. Just the fact that it has Daleks in it means it's probably the most seen serial of the McCoy era giving it an advantage over the rest. |

Rememberance has always been a favorite of mine. This is not really because the Daleks are in it, but rather because of a change in the feel of the show.
At the time we had just had The Trial of a Timelord series followed by Sylvester's somewhat disapointing first series (pretty much made up the bottom of the just completed list). Rememberance came on and I thought "Oh, proper Doctor Who again". This episode seemed to me, at the time, as a return to "serious" Doctor Who (well as serious as it ever gets).
Although the Daleks were good I don't think that is why people voted for it, look at where Silver Nemisis ended up and it had the Cybermen.
Dalek Bore Alert !!! - The design of both sides in Rememberance differs from any Daleks that preceded them - Dimensions are completely different - and the design was never used again. This alone makes these Daleks unique - every other design has been used repeatedly.
In my opinion Curse of Fenric should definately be in second - another cracking good traditional episode.
I kind of agree that Survival is quite high on the list considering its "qualitity" but when I look below it, nothing jumps out that says to me "I'm much better than Survival".
With retrospect, it seems a little unfair having the TV movie in with McCoy stuff though I would necessarily argue with where it ended up.
If we exclude the TV movie, I would say that we correctly identified the top four, the bottom four and the middle four. I can live with the top four in order, but the middle and bottom four I would rearrange a little. |

The TV Movie is a bit high. I think we can thank Paul McGann's good performance for that.
Greatest Show in the Galaxy should have been a shoe-in for the Top 5.
Thought Silver Nemesis would have been slightly higher. I guess it wasn't memorable enough.
Delta and the Bannerman and Paradise Towers should be above The Hapiness Patrol, IMO.
I also have a soft spot for Time and the Rani, but I knew it would be last. I still get chills thinking back to watching that as a little kid. The exciting new title sequence and theme song, the regeneration, the incredible bubble trap special effects that still look decent 2 decades later. Oh well. |
