Okay some thoughts as a I near the end, which hopefully wil make more sense to me. It doesn't make sense to me. The Doctor went and picked a fight with the Toymaker? To put him out of action I guess. I'll take that. I like the original TOYMAKER story, not without it's problems but it was a bold experiment and a fairly entertaining one and with some real nightmre behind it. This is...more pacey and prhaps more scary but not a bold. It's not bad, it;s good but I wish they went or more of a sound from the someone's voice who t least sounds like Mike Gough but they went for a toy doll sound and Asian? sound.

Anyway this tended to lose me as I stated before so it could be that I"m no really paying attention enough. ANd I like puzzles like THE PRISONER and other DW like WARRIOR'S GATE but perhaps visually I'm better at these incoherent things or maybe it'll make sense later or maybe I"m just not paying attention.

I just get the feeling that it's good and the games quick and somewhat deadly up to the premise of the Toy maker but I also get the feeling it could have been GREAT but we shall see as the end comes

Okay didn't know what to expect here either and the first episode is brilliant, the visuals being well drawn out from the sound and effects and the dialog. The guest stars are all rather good is all very strange after awhile. There are chessboards in rooms akin to LAND OF THE GIANTS and more appropriately THE PRISONER; there are avalaunches that follow the Doctor in a deadly game of chutes and ladders, which frankly, I recall seeing in a much better Marvel Monthly story where Ace traverses the TARDIS in a chutes and ladders game; the Doctor wears pyjamas with questions marks on them; and there are a lot of brilliant moments and bits of dialog, mostly from the Doctor and Sly McCoy is just great in this. But the plot gets lost on me or perhaps I got lost in it...

I found my mind wandering from the story. When something is mentioned, I began to think about where the story might go, what the story might have done differently, or what could have been different or how things were done on the tv show that were similar. I began to think the Mind Master from THE MIND ROBBER was behind this or the Master himself or even the Rani. Then at the end of ep2 I think: we get a little midget doll in a cabinet, evoking TALONS OF WENG CHAIANG'S Mister Syn...also the Doc's got some form of amensia again and is in an aslyum...again.

I didn't mind the cliches or the same plot lines as other storylines. What I do mind is not knowing what is going on for this long. The story reminds me of the SAPPHIRE AND STEEL audio series and maybe even one or two of that show's TV stories (there were only six) but it goes on far too long without any I'm hoping that the explanation is forthcoming in the last part.

I really like this story, I really do but it's gone off into dreamland/nightmare land. And just when I thought I had this somewhat figured out...along comes the Doctor mentioning the Celestial Toymaker is the doll in the cabinet...but is he? Is this a double bluff? And why are Ace and Hex in the attic pretending to be or are they...dolls?

It's all appropriately werid for a Toymaker story and I'm hoping, again, that the payoff comes and the story makes sense at the end, most of McCoy's stories on audio do.

Anyway the first two parts are puzzling at worst, delightfully joyful and imaginative at best. Worth your time.

The very end scene is just...very reminiscent of the 7th Doctor's time, both in tv and novels, as well as the comics, very bizarre and slightly negative as well. I can't truly recommend this that highly because it's just...a jumble in the end but again, it's not terrible either.

There's a VERY good short story at the end, part one of 12 with Polly writing the Brig a letter. Very well done and the kind of thing that only really works on audio. It's just grand that they can do this sort of thing and of the type that should have happened so much earlier than expected. I'm not sure of the title, THE THREE COMPANIONS it might be called. It's well done. Not sure why Polly didn't realize the Doctor could change his appearance and the Brig thinking about flowers is a ...strange but in old age, I guess it's possible. Great dialog

Hi Chase - as one of the GE moderators I feel I should request you keep these threads to 'single threads'

ie. why can't you just use one thread to discuss 'The Magic Mouse Trap' 'complete - not just covering 2 episodes here.

I think you would get a better response from other forum members that way.

Is is just a suggestion - daveac

Or perhaps just one thread to discuss the Big Finish Releases. I'm sure there's one somewhere...

Please check out my blog, as I attempt to watch and review EVERY Doctor Who episode!
