Torchwood (E11) Combat [SPOILERS] Views: 2959

I was doing more thinking about Rhys blow up/attitude last night while insomnia hit (and while waiting to acquire the next episodes, which wasn't happening fast enough!).

It finally occurred to me that Rhys was expressing the beginnings of the rage that what's-his-name-with-the-chin was talking about: that impotent feeling in the modern man that was pushing them towards Combat. So we really see three levels of the modern mans push towards the primative: Mark is beyond the head deep into Combat as an outlet, Owen has realized his need for an outlet and sees the satisfaction in Combat (never mind his suicidal tendencies at the end), and Rhys who is beginning to feel like a non-entity in his relationships and perhaps has taken that first step towards the need for a primative outlet.

    supremacy is relative

Rhys overreacted but Gwen doesn't communicate enough with him. He really has to take too much on trust. I hope Gwen realises that before he walks off and leaves.

Sorry. I finally felt interested enough to watch the last three eps of Torchwood. Just finished Combat, and all I felt is a big ol' "Meh." Owen actually repulses me, I don't care about his character at all any more. Gwen going freaky on her boyfriend made me like her less. I'll read through the thread to see if other people can cast a better light on it, but I'm just watching the eps now to finish out the season, not because I feel compelled to. I honestly cannot see how this was picked up for a second season.

    /-edit-/
Watched the finale, too. With all the focus that has been on Owen in the final 4 or 5 episodes I actually thought (and to be quite honest, hoped) that they were leading up to a finale where he was killed off. To my dismay, that didn't happen.

I'm going "Full Circle" and putting my avatar back to what it was when I first joined. :)

One thing I forgot to mention, that I didn't see posted here already...

This episode, Combat, was written by Noel "Mickey" Clarke. I guess he has to do something now that he's stuck in the alternate dimension. Maybe he'll be directing some episodes next. Big Grin

Well having had relatives staying over Christmas I didn't get to watch this episode when it aired. In fact, with one thing and another I've only just got round to watching it and so can once again venture in to the Torchwood forums!

Maybe it's because I've had a Torchwood break but I've got to say I really enjoyed this episode. However, having seen Gwen 'confess' to Rhys in the previous episodes spoiler I was disappointed with the cop out of amnesia pills! I was hoping for something a bit more firey!

    I can watch episodes 12 + 13 now!
