Well I think this 'new beginning' needs it's own thread even with good comments already posted on the main page.
I think it's a great idea which will allow even more cross-links in the world of Dr Who.
And it will keep James on his toes eh Ken and Louis?
Lot's of fair comments of 'The Christmas Special' - I agree that the spiderlady was handicapped (eight legs no hands - get it?) by not seeming to move about. Having her scuttling about would have made her more frightening.
Catherine Tate was good but I couldn't stand all that yelling if she had stayed with the Doctor.
Anyway - Podshock 63 - two hours of sheer pleasure - thanks guys.
Cheers, daveac |

Thanks daveac,
Apologies for the excessive reverb (echoing) heard in this episode... Hadn't realized that until it was too late.

I was wondering about that reverb. I thought maybe you did it on purpose to sound ethereal or something.
I agree with Dave that this is a great thing.
I also have to comment on the Runaway Bride, as I don't think I have yet. I enjoyed it, but I think not only was the spider-lady a little...well...just strange, but man, she was overacting something fierce. Even on classic Doctor Who episodes, I get a bit stressed when the baddies just yell really loudly over and over.
Someone mentioned Sylvester Stallone as Spock when comparing Jason Statham to the Doctor, and I can't seem to get that mental picture out of my head. Thanks, guys.

| Been listening to my first Podshock which was brought to my attention by Outpost Gallifrey. Anyway, just thought I'd stop by and say how much I've enjoyed it so far. Thanks for the tip about Freema Agyeman's website, very interesting. Should be listening to the rest of the episode over the next couple of days. Looking forward to it! |

| Hey Louis, what happened to the stereo separation between your three voices? This was one of the things I loved about your podcast. It is much easier to follow who is talking when they are talking in different places inside my head! |

Yeah, I miss it as well. The problem lies with Skype, the VoIP tool we use to bridge the audio over the net from various locations around the world. It doesn't separate the tracks or allow for stereo positioning. So everyone on the conference are merged together. For awhile I was then just separating my own track from everyone on Skype. So I would be panned to the left, while everyone else was being panned to the right. The problem with this was it just turned out to be more trouble than it was worth as it requires syncing the tracks together and with the trouble that often comes from Skype such as lost connections and people dropping out of the conference, it meant re-syncing each time we would have to restart. Plus it was a double duty for the computer doing the actual recording as it was using two separate applications to record the two separate source tracks to two separate files... and the end result was not a true full stereo effect as it was still only my own track being separated and everyone else via Skype were still all in one track.
So now, unless there is someone physically with me while recording, we are simply recording all of us on together when using Skype on one track. No more syncing and re-syncing. No more juggling multiple apps to start, pause, or stop recordings, and less processing power needed for the recording on the host computer, which hopefully results in less fan noise as well.
Now, we will return to stereo vocal recording of the hosts and guests if Ken or another participant is live with me during the recording.
Also all the other elements of the show are still in full stereo.
Sorry, this must be a very long explanation to a very simple question. (Just like our podcasts! )
Cheers,

Louis,
Have you guys considered each person recording their own bits on their local machine and then sending you the files to assemble together? Some people record their podcasts that way. It wouldn't work with all guests, but may be worth a try.

Yeah, we have discussed that in the past, but it would only make the post production even more troublesome. If anything we are trying to streamline the post production work as much as possible in order to get the shows out quicker.
In fact, we did that for the most recent promo we created in which the tracks were recorded separately in the US and UK and then brought together for the final editing.

Hey Taras, I apologize if my previous message came across as curt. It wasn't my intent. I was up late in fact editing Podshock 64 at the time. So I was just tired. It is a good suggestion and it would prevent the Skype distortion as well.
Cheers,

No worries. Not all workflows work for all people. What may seem reasonable for a 20 minute effort may be excruciating for a 120 minute marathon session.
Plus, I would be techy if someone was telling me how to do something at 3 AM as well...
