[Quote by: Magpie] If i could afford it I'd buy a Mac, as simple as that. But I can't - and studies show that doing too much research before a purchase and having too many choices CAN lead to choice overload & eventual buyers remorse.
Just buy whatever you secretly want and then afterwards don't ask anybody for their opinion about your purchase and whatever you do - don't go back and look and see what else you could have gotten for the same money
That's my advice |

you aren't wrong about the buyers remorse - not that I have that w/ my Sony that I bought, but I know when I bought my car I researched and researched and made a logical decision. I have hated my car ever since b/c I've no emotional connection with it.... |

Yeah, there was a big article a year or two ago in popular science magazine or some such about how a little bit of choice makes people happy and too much choice seems to give people the blues. Unfortunately I think most of the time (in North America in particular) all anybody gets is the "illusion" of choice. Case in point - the recent dog food poisonings - 1 factory making "40 cat foot brands and 51 dog food brands"(according to a newspaper I got to through google) I'm getting off topic, sorry
I do get a little bored of the mac vs. pc struggle all the time... it's like editing software - people get so hoity toity about their editing set ups but when it came time for me to have to actually spend my own moolah I chose an affordable but "non trendy" option. You need to have the good tools, but then again, "a bad workman always blames his tools." |

| Probably won't last. They'll do it for a bit and then find some way to back out. These companies have done this before with Linux. |

Actually, they usually get forced out because Microsoft will threaten them with increased prices for Windows licenses, which would kill any PC maker's margins... It's happened before, but nobody does anything about such anticompetitive, illegal activity.

Well if you Google European Union and Microsoft you might find the opposite. They have fined MS quite a lot and made them make some changes to the OS (in Europe) to make it easier for people to change defalut browser, mail clinet, media player etc away from the OS defaults. |

But they keep going back to the same illegal behavior, because it is cheaper for them to pay the fines than to allow any real competition. |

What gets me is how they complain about selling pre-installed Linux on laptops/computers because they can't decide on which Linux variant to "certify" for their hardware. Here's a hint Dell, if you "certify" SuSE to run on your hardware, every other form of Linux will too. They're all using the same drivers after all. It's not like there are video drivers for Ubuntu and sound card drivers for Redhat. It's just Linux drivers, plain and simple.
Besides, they talk about it like they're the only company ever to release a Linux laptop. Please, System 76 has been selling them for ages now and I don't hear them complaining about it. Besides, lots of Linux users (granted, not all) will use the forums for the specific distro for support, not Dell.
Of course, I shouldn't complain. I'm bloody TYPING this on a Dell laptop, hehe. That said, I made it run Linux, so whether they sell them with Linux onboard is somewhat irrelevant - the software is free after all.
Ok, that's my anti-corporate rant for the month.
