I noted the discussion on Britishisms and thought I would post this URL. It is not perfect but it might help with some words...

    British Words

    Hope it is helpful...

Awww! It doesn't mention "swish" - always a good one for amusing confusion. In Britain if you use it as an adjective (eg you describe a friend's outfit as "rather swish") it means stylish or posh.

Whereas in the US you'd be telling your friend he looks really gay.

So, what's the difference? I don't get it? Don't those mean the same thing? Twisted Evil

The difference is, Brits can be a bit fruity without actually being gay, but in America, you'd get beat up by troglodyte rednecks for dressing like that... Rolling Eyes

What a great site - I don't agree with the definition of 'chuff' though. Definately one of favourite words and one of the most versatile. It has different regional meanings. Big Grin

The only meaning "swish" has to me is you just scored two in Basketball...

    ...weird.

Swish... isn't that a Big Finish audio? Oh, sorry, that's ...ish!

For me, swish is swirling a liquid in the mouth... hmmm...
