Yeah... We mentioned this in the upcoming podcast as well. Such a long hiatus between series... (a full year at least). But if it starts in January 2008, then in reality it is only three months later then expected (being that series 1 started in October 2006, right? -- or was it the end of September?)... If it does start next January then it will probably end just as 2008 series of Doctor Who (assuming there will be one) begins.
Cheers,

Well, filming is supposed to finish in November. So an early 2008 start is reasonable. |

| Drat that is disappointing. A whole year to wait. That will not help the show attract a fan base. Blast! |

My personal theory is that it makes it easier for the events of the finale and, assuming they have one, Christmas special to not interefere too much with Torchwood.
If they do have another Christmas special, these always seem to flow directly on from the end of the DW season. And if Jack survives the DW finale, he'll be in (or at least around during) the special. And if Torchwood airs in-between...
I think it just makes it easy for the stories to flow coherantly. Yes, the TARDIS can time travel. Yes, the Doctor and his mates do not need to stick to truly linear time. But from a viewer's point of view, having someone "return" to one place before they "leave" another is confusing.
The way they did the TARDIS audio-cameo at the end of the TW finale was probably about as far as they can stretch non-linear events without it requiring the viewers to keep notes. |

Can you give any more details about this? Or is there a link I could read? You have me intrigued now. I wasn't a big fan of season 1, so I'm interested to know what they are changing. |

Not really. It seemed pretty obvious when the delay was first announced that the programme makers could see the problems with the first series and that they were going to take some time to address the problems and fix them. The show had huge systemic problems in terms of set-up, characterization and internal continuity.
I had this by John Barrowman during an interview he did in late March. It was either BBC Breakfast or Richard and Judy, I cannot remember which. In a read between the lines kid of way he did reveal that they were going back to the drawing board. I believe his exact words were that "tweaking" was required.

'tweaking?' more 'tweaking?' - that was about the only thing the team WERE doing - tweaking each other that is.
