Myth Makers is now accepting submissions of original fiction and
artwork for its upcoming edition. The deadline is May 31, 2007 for
story proposals.
For over a decade, Myth Makers has been dedicated to bringing quality
fiction to fans of Doctor Who via the printed page. If you're a
writer, who wants an opportunity to develop a story you’ve got
rattling around in your head, or perhaps you’ve got an idea that’s a
bit more experimental for other venues then you may be interested in
contributing to Myth Makers.
What sort of stories are we looking for? Doctor Who fans are diverse
and they like their fan fiction that way too. Stories that elicit
nostalgia for the TV series. Echoes from the Virgin New Adventures,
BBC books or tie-ins to the audio productions. Feel free to explore
the boundaries of the genre. We want a good mixture of traditional
and non-traditional stories.
We want stories people will talk about, that break the mould, that
say something new and interesting, that are any combination of funny,
moving, daring, challenging, outrageous, different and adventurous.
Some ground rules
* There is no minimum word count, but in general stories should
not exceed 5000 words;
* No crossovers please, unless they're extremely subtle;
* Stories with adult themes are acceptable as long as the
content is not gratuitous or unnecessary.
* All work should be original. Please don't submit anything that
has been printed elsewhere, has been on your website or, worse still,
wasn't written by you. In addition, if your work is accepted we ask
that you do not allow it to appear anywhere else (including online)
for at least a year after the release of the issue.
Got an idea? Up for the challenge? Send us an outline in Word or RT
format, as text in an e-mail, or even printed on reliable old paper.
Outlines should be no more than 500 words in length (if you plan to
write a story less than 500 words, you can dispense with a proposal
and send the complete story). You should include a plot synopsis, but
you needn't be limited to that. You may want to ask yourself the
following questions when putting together your proposal:
What is my story about? Who are the characters? What's different
about my story? By the end of my story, what has changed?
We are also looking for original artwork. If you'd like to contribute
artwork, send us some samples of your work and tell us your strengths
and what you enjoy drawing.
Please keep in mind that we approach the editing of Myth Makers as a
professional undertaking even though we are not able to pay our
contributors, so please be prepared for your work to be
constructively criticised and possibly rejected.
If you're up for the challenge, please send your proposal(s) to the
editors of Myth Makers, Scott Clarke and John Anderson at
mythmakers@hotmail.com or alternatively to the following address:
