"How could a pair of pants be worth $54 million dollars? That's the stunning claim made in a lawsuit filed by one Washington, D.C. man, who is of all things, a judge.
Roy Pearson is suing his dry cleaners for the astronomical amount because he says they lost his pants. The lawsuit is sparking national outrage and it's a hot topic on TV.
Pearson is representing himself and even broke down in tears when he testified about his pants.
So how did Pearson arrive at the astounding sum of $54 million? He claims the dry cleaners own him $18,000 a day for the four years since they lost the pants, plus $500,000 in "emotional suffering."
The dry cleaners being sued are Jin Nam Chung and Ki Chung, immigrants from South Korea.
The Chungs say they offered to settle with Pearson for $12,000, but he refused. They even say they found the pants, but according to Pearson the pants aren't his.
Pearson's legal fight may cause him legal problems of a different sort. At least one legal group has called for a disciplinary investigation of the administrative law judge. And his reappointment to the bench is still pending."

The man should not only be not reappointed, he should be disbarred. Wasting the time and resources of the courts is something judges usually decry, not encourage.
Not to mention his outrageous claims of damages when the maximum damage done was the cost of the pair of pants, it's a mockery of the system he is sworn to uphold.
I hope this comes back to bite him in the ass, pantless or not.

Adding to the insanity surrounding pants, Mayor Carol Broussard said he would sign an ordinance to ban saggy pants. So if you are caught with your pants that sag in Delcambre, LA, you can face up to six months in jail and a $500 dollar fine.
Yet another elected official wasting time and resources on pants!

Absolutely incredible. Goes to show the people in charge have a really slender grip on reality. More terrifying than anything in Doctor Who!

A judge ruled Monday that no pair of pants is worth $54 million, rejecting a lawsuit that took a dry cleaner's promise of "Satisfaction Guaranteed" to its most litigious extreme.

Superior Court Judge Judith Bartnoff ruled that the owners of Custom Cleaners did not violate the city's consumer protection law by failing to live up to Pearson's expectations of the "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sign once displayed in the store window.
"A reasonable consumer would not interpret 'Satisfaction Guaranteed' to mean that a merchant is required to satisfy a customer's unreasonable demands" or to agree to demands that the merchant would have reasonable grounds for disputing, the judge wrote.
Bartnoff wrote that Pearson, an administrative law judge, failed to prove that the pants the dry cleaner tried to return were not the pants he took in for alterations.
Bartnoff ordered Pearson to pay the court costs of defendants Soo Chung, Jin Nam Chung and Ki Y. Chung. The court costs amount to just over $1,000 for photocopying, filing and similar expenses, according to the Chungs' attorney.
A motion to recover the Chungs' tens of thousands of dollars in attorney fees will be considered later.
