I am thinking I may do some website upgrades this week. One of which would be to the forum software here. Now, I have to say that I am bit gun-shy in doing it again as last time the attempt to upgrade the forum software here was made it resulted in bringing the entire site down (not just the forums). I was never able to figure out just what caused it. The only remedy for it was to revert to the previous version we had been using.
So the reason for this post is simply to bring it to everyone's attention in case there are problems.
I don't know if I will definitely do it this week or not -- it depends if time allows.

Seriously; As long as you have a current verified backup which you obviously do then there is not much risk.
Can I ask (as you are about to update anyway) if you would adjust the clicking of links so that they open a new window?
When I am reading a thread with a link I would rather have a new page load in the background rather than have it take me away from this site. |

You must do it to your schedule - but would it be worth waiting until Series 3 concludes?
What with the 'big end of series' storyline I would expect the Forums to be really buzzing for the next few weeks.

When series 3 concludes, it starts in the US and is well underway in Canada. The way Louis' schedules appear to be, it is best he do it when he has time.

As long as you have a full backup handy should anything go wrong. UPGRADE AWAY!
A full backup saved me when an upgrade to my site went completely botched up during a wordpress update. What does the Embassy use as it's engine? (if you don't mind me asking)

Hey Dave...
No, it is not part of any upgrade. Sadly, I never got around to finding the time I needed to do the upgrades. The alternating images for the Last of the Time Lords promo is achieved via a Javascript. I had to implement and modify three different scripts before I found the one that I was pleased with, but eventually it came together.
As for the upgrades... perhaps it may be best to do them after the 2007 series ("series 3") concludes... just in case there are any problems that might bring the site down.
