| [Quote by: tarashnat] Dead London has actually got a cool idea, and it is a decent story. I just think that our expectations for this series are a bit too high at this point. Then again, last series started out with Blood of the Daleks, which is about the same league as this and Max Warp. |

Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't mean to vent so much London bile that it would actually prevent someone from listening to it. At the end of the day, Taras is quite right to point out that it's a case less of disliking a story on its own merits and more of thinking it fell short of its promise. It's also sort of the reverse of "Blood of the Daleks", in my mind. There the core story was weaker than the characterization. The start of the Doctor/Lucie relationship made listening a joy, in a vaguely similar way to how the character relationships of "An Unearthly Child" are stronger than its plot. I still think BF is frittering away the magic of the 8/Lucie relationship, but you should still support the line if for no other reason than to ensure it gets the chance to return to its full potential. Trust me, if in fact we do get back to Lucie-centric storytelling, I'll be the first to re-evaluate Dead London as a diverting lull in the ongoing character arcs. I mean, it's not like Sarah or Zoe or Barbara sparkled every single outing. |

I refuse to let this amazing thread die.
Tarashnat, do you have any rating updates you'd like to make? I'm very curious to hear what you thought of The Haunting of Thomas Brewster or the latest 8th Doctor/Lucie adventures.
Personally, I found The Haunting of Thomas Brewster to be an admirable example of Big Finish attempting to momentarily break away from their narrative restraints (reminiscent of Love & Monsters and Random Shoes from the televised Whoniverse), but marred by some unexceptional acting and the re-use of a plot device heard heard just a few months ago on The Bride of Peladon (hint: are you my mummy?). I also found the story arch for the Robert McIntosh character to be weak and needlessly tragic.

Oh grand tarashnat, I do humbly ask if you might have a ratings update to add to this remarkable thread? I'd love to see your ratings for Season 2 of the 8th Doctor and Lucie saga. Thanks!

I'll get to this eventually. I've fallen behind in my listening the last few months, as I've been focusing on other podcasts, etc. I have heard the entire second series of McGann/Miller, but I may have to give them another listen to refresh the old memory, and will organize the willpower to perform an update in a few of weeks.

I have finally caught up with my Big Finish homework and have updated my omnibus ratings.
I have really been enjoying the third season of the Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller audio plays. I think this has been the strongest series yet for the pair.
The recent main range plays have been pretty good, as have the Companion Chronicles. |
