| I'm new to the board, so forgive me if there is already a thread dealing with this subject, but I've been very interested in the world Russell T. Davies is creating, and where he might go with it. Whereas for the most part previous Doctor Whos moved in secrecy with the rest of the world pretty much oblivious to his presence, or the existance of aliens. In the last three seasons though we have had alien ships over London (multiple time) and cyberman invasions. Torchwood has fired massive lasers from all around London. Prime Ministers have pleaded for the Doctor, and most recently the Master confronted the Doctor, all on national television. Now, in "The Sound of Drums" we have a man-made flying aircraft carier. My question (and it's not a criticism) is do you think that the current-day reality of Doctor Who is now far removed from the "real" world and do you think that Russell will be moving it even more away and into a sci-fi world. Really, how many more major events can occur and the modern London of Doctor who remain simular to our own? Everyone now knows of The Doctor and Aliens, even if they were in Spain. |

Welcome!
As to the Doctor and Co. being on TV - they were described as being 'wanted and dangerous' not as an alien.
The 'we have a man-made flying aircraft carier' is down to the Master not made-made as such - and I don't suppose he's worried about intoducing 'alien technology' into the present day world.
But your right it's not the 'low profile' Dr Who of the past.
