Episode 10: The Lost Boy Part 2 Views: 1033

A satisfactory conclusion to the series. There was a small bit of deus ex machina at the end, but all things considered, it was a good decision going with The Sarah Jane Adventures and not Rose Tyler: Earth Defense.

Good episode. Uh... what did you mean, end of series? Aren't series usually 13 episodes there?

    Sean.

One solid hope is worth a cartload of uncertainties.

Yes part 2 was the end of the series.

I got a family phonecall halfway through so I'll now wait to watch it on BBC1 next Monday.

I'm so bummed the series is over already. I enjoyed this show so much more than Torchwood. I knew Mr. Smith would show his true colors eventually after seeing that little hint of a dark side with Clyde in whatever past episode that was. I wasn't sure if they would work it out so he could be brought back next series (fingers crossed) or if he would be destroyed. Seeing K9 back, even if just briefly, was a lot of fun, too.

So I'll be anxiously waiting on any news of series 2. I really hope it comes back. I love having Sarah Jane back in my life.

So what is the overall schedule in the Whoniverse? I know we have the Christmas episode of Doctor Who in a month. When does Torchwood series 2 come back? Is that in Jan-Apr of 2008, bridging the gap until Doctor Who series 4 starts? And as far as non-Who goes, does anyone know when series 2 of Primeval is?

I need someone to make a recommendation so I can get my British TV fix for the next few months. What should I be watching?

I'm going "Full Circle" and putting my avatar back to what it was when I first joined. :)

The SJA series was to be only 10 episodes. I was a little taken off guard myself as I was thinking it was only 10 stories (broken up into 2 parters)... until I remembered it was only 10 episodes, not stories.

I expect it will return with more... next year sometime.

    Cheers,
    Louis

It was a good conclusion, but there were some unpleasant flashback reminders to rubbish solutions of the movie Independence Day but I can overlook it here more knowing that is just a children's series.

I was really hoping this would be the demised of the "Mister Smith" computer and that K-9 would take it's place, as it should have been from the beginning.

Overall, I did enjoy the series... even though it was obvious it was meant only for children at times.

The cliffhanger in the middle of each story was very reminiscent of classic Doctor Who, as were the running time of episode.

Once again, and I think especially in this story, the sonic device (in this case, Sarah Jane Smith's lipstick) just does too much... It can now knock out motorcycle riding attackers from afar. It's the same complaint I have with the Doctor's current sonic screwdriver. While I am not anti-sonic screwdriver (or lipstick)... I just wish it was not treated as a miracle device that can be used for almost anything.

    Cheers,
    Louis

Yes, they referred to this in "Time Crash" too... Tennant talking about how the Fifth Doc went without his Sonic Screwdriver. At the time the producers felt it was too convenient, used too easily to get out of sticky situations, so they had it destroyed. Smart move, I think.

Still, a sonic screwdriver technically SHOULD be able to knock someone off a motorcycle. Throwing a wrench into the workings of a mototcycle engine while it's in full throttle should cause it to sieze up. I had no problem with that one. Not any more than I do the sonic screwdriver Eccles and TenDoc have, which seems to be even MORE of a convenience. Hell, it can even perform surgery.

Yeah, I was liking this series. I hope they bring it back. If it ends forever after 11 episodes, I'll be sad.

Yeah, I remember that... While I am not advocating getting rid of the sonic screwdriver altogether as was the case during the JNT era... I just would like to see it more limited on what it can actually do. I remember when I first saw The Empty Child and I was puzzled why and how the Doctor was using his sonic screwdriver to examine the patients in the hospital. I am sure the sonic screwdriver could have some medical uses such as destroying kidney stones or such. Hell, I have a sonic toothbrush myself. It is just sometimes it seems more like a magic wand than a sonic screwdriver.

Well, I reasoned it out that way as well. That at least it can be justified that the motorcycle is a mechanical device and the sonic lipstick may have played havoc with it's workings... (i.e. loosen some screws or such). If the antagonist was riding a horse, it may not work as well (though I guess it could be argued that the sonic lipstick could have emitted an ultrasonic sound that disturbed the horse ("spooked" the horse as it were)).

I can't stand when the Doctor uses his sonic screwdriver like it's a tricorder or tracking device. What cracks me up about the new series is that even they realized they were making the thing too powerful so they came up with the dopey "dead lock seal" thing for when they conveniently need something locked that even the sonic screwdriver can't open. I don't think Sarah Jane has been as bad with her sonic lipstick. I could be forgetting something, though.
