Now, I just flip channels if I find myself watching old Star Trek and Kirk is bedhopping. It just dates the show so much, and I think that is what it is going to do to Torchwood - though, I don't mean to imply that we'll be watching episodes of Torchwood in 40 years on daytime TV.
When it comes down to it, I think the sex stuff just takes away from them being able to develop a good sci-fi/fantasy show. |

It's been years since I watched the classic Trek episodes regularly, so this is just speculation, but I'd be curious to see if Kirk really cats around as much as people remember, or if that's been played up so much that people just assume it's the case. I just watched Where No Man Has Gone Before a few days ago and he didn't hook up at all. I wonder if someone actually put together a guide to which episodes he actually "gets some".

I decided to do a little Googling before hitting Submit on this post. Sci-Fi.com has a listing of the episodes and with the summaries, they have little "score cards" in the left-hand column that tracks things like Red-shirt deaths, "He's Dead, Jim"s, and Kirk's Conquests. For example, for the episode Dagger of the Mind it has...
Kirk's Conquests: 1
(Dr. Helen Noel: It's implied that the two had a "fling" at the science lab Christmas party. Rrrrowr!)
I'll have to go through the episodes and tally them up, but the pages seem to load kind of slow. Not sure why. |

I liked things like Voyager and even Enterprise when you needed a note from the Ships Doctor to have "relations" which aliens.
Now thats more like it.
Intergalactic STDS... maybe Kirk was just immune? or was under secret orders to infect his was accross space (and time...in a couple of cases) |

I guess for me it's a bit of a head scratcher that with TW, there doesn't seem to be anybody that's straight.
No, I'm not complaining that there are gays/lesbians/poodle-@#$%ers in the show, but while you'd not be surprised by one homosexual in a group as small as the TW crew, to have basically all of them as homosexual/omnisexual/whatever?
It is a bit over the top.
Still, I really enjoyed "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang". |

I forgot about the poodle joke in the show. Now that made me laugh out loud. 
Now that I think about it, I also laughed at the "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope." bit.  |

Had you asked me the last time I was on these boards what would be my favorite piece of holiday candy from BBC Wales, I'd never have guessed it would have been the series premiere of Torchwood. But of the three main programs, "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" was the clear winner for me — easily surpassing the over-crowded "Lost Boy (Part II)" and the Kylie-impaired "Voyage". I thought the script was brimming with wit, the direction was confident, and the plot, while lightweight, was certainly more than the sum of those "Damned" setpieces.
Sure, it's very early in 2008. But for the moment I find myself genuinely wondering whether the best season this year might be the one we're in, rather than the ones to come. |

Well I watched the 'junior' version of episode 1 earlier tonight and I'm not sure why they are doing two versions - except to get more air time.
They only made minor cuts to the violent bits - cutting away from the man thrown over the building and when Jack landed on the bench.
They didn't show Captain Jack having his head pushed through the glasses on the bar and they cut a bit from Owen getting shot.
But all the sexual 'chat' and 'adult' happennings were left intact.
In fact it was funny that they showed many of the missing 'bits' in the confidencial that followed at 7.45 - which was before the watershed anyway.
I think they may as well just have one version - in fact I think the 'child friendly' version was worse in some ways - in that 'consequences' weren't shown as much. Captain John threw the man over the side of the building but they didn't show them looking over to see him killed on the ground - he was only shown later as the gang turned up to check the body.

Great to see you around!!!!! You've definitely been missed.
Personally, I thought Torchwood's season opener made for decent entertainment, but it felt too much like a pilot for some James Marsters spin-off series that should never get off the ground. |
