Don't get me started about Fords... Anyway, KITT was a Pontiac Firebird TransAm! I guess that and the new voice kind of kill it for me. |

Did you say "74,384,338 to 1 against"? That's my lucky number!

Ok, so I finally watched the new Knight Rider and I have to say, it wasn't terrible. By no means was it great either, but it wasn't laughably bad.
As comparison, after watching it I zipped through the Knight Rider 2000 movie made back in 1991, and that was hysterical. It was made in '91, but set in 2000. Even though that's only a nine year difference it was full of bad "future" stuff. It was kind of a combination of Robocop (Mitch "AD Skinner" Pileggi plays a total Clarence Bodicker type and shoots a cop in the head) and Demolition Man (the criminals are in cryo-jail). Oh, and it had President Quayle. And algae farms making hydrogen fuel had oil prices at 10 cents a barrel. But the bad guy's wireless laptop still made bad modem tones when he went to wire-transfer money. And the worst thing about it, KITT didn't even get his new body until after an hour into the movie.
So, the new movie in comparison wasn't all that bad. And Val Kilmer as the new KITT voice wasn't as bad as I expected. Although, considering how he bailed after one Batman movie, I wonder if he'd come back if this was made into an actual series.
[speaking of Batman, I cracked up how in Tilda Swinton's Oscar acceptance speech she joked that Clooney wore the batsuit under his costume when filming Michael Clayton]
Anyway, I'm giving Rambling Russell a run for his money now, so I'm done. |

Well I don't want to give any spoilers, but the Hoff does appear in the pilot, in a guest role.
I enjoyed and hope they make a series. I would like William Daniels back as the voice of Kitt though |

OK, I completely missed this when it was on. Was it a TV movie? A new series? A mini-series?
I blinked and it came and went. I am just wondering if it tanked or if it was only a TV movie (possibly a pilot for relaunching a new series)?
Cheers,

You have it exactly. It was a TV movie as a pilot for a new series and it tanked. You were better off watching the inside of your eyelids during that blink! |

It was on on the Sunday Knight of Gallifrey, that probably why you missed it. I had recorded it - only because I had just bought a Mustang (just a GT not a Shelby GT500 Cobra with color changing, bullet proof, 150mpg Upgrades or Val Kilmer GPS !) |

Ahh... I thought it may have been on that weekend. Yeah, I wasn't watching any television while I was at Gallifrey. I hardly have time for it while I am home, let alone while in LA at Gallifrey!

It really wasn't that bad. Not at all like KR2000 (hey...lets take the main feature of the show KITT and remove it). In fact I think they did a decent job of bringing the series forward and at the same time more-or-less preserving the history of the show. However, the guy they had playing Michael Knight looked more like a washed up German pop-star.)
If they put a bit of thought into it, there is no reason it couldn't survive for a few seasons. |
