Okay this show has it all: love, hate, survival, self sacrifice, jealousy, sex, teen motherhood, cults, etc. The first season is probably the best. Basic idea: a virus wipes out the entire adult population. Two or three surviving children (all of them actually survive but some...get it later) mix with others and find a huge mall to set up as a base to try to survive and work together and find food. It's not an easy show, nor an easy life for the characters. A studly teen and a pregnant girl come to the mall, we think she's his mate but she's not---his brother is the one who is the father of the baby...and he's leader of a savage gang outside...there are several. The best eps of season one concern the lead girl's love for a boy (played by the same and first guy who played Xena's son)and her desire to leave with him...while at the same time, getting all the tribes to try to reunite. It doesn't go well is also quite fun. SOme of the villains turn out in later seasons to be some of the heroes and heroines of the series...but they are not all altrusitic. The show went on from one season to the next, some characters die, leave, or just vanish. There's a fan site that details all of it. The show also changes a bit...season two dealt with a cult, season three a tyrant leader, season four an invasion of Techs, and season five the fall out of the Techs. That puts it all down in a nut shell leaving out all the other sub plots and complex character relationships. It truly covers all of human behavior...everything is there. Betrayal, obsession, anorexia, caring, cooperation or lack of it, science vs religion, and some really good teen actors...

oh there was also supposed to be a season six but something happened...and it got changed into a more kid friendly show...years later (? mayb?) a young boy (the son of two of the original TRIBE characters maybe?) wanders into the realm of two factions of warring or near warring groups, one a tyrant kid who banishes others and the other group a farm type community of religious kids. A third group of Asians appear and all three groups work together eventually to overcome some errant machines.
