You ever notice how sometimes the BBC seems to publish pictures of Peter Davison that are backwards?Just take a look at the cover of the DVD for "The Caves of Androzani" sometime. And I've seen it more than once. Pictures of Davison with the celery on his right lapel and his hair parted in the wrong direction. I don't notice it as much with the others.

With Davison, it is also the part in his hair that sometimes gives it away immediately... This is very common for Star Trek fans for years and years now since the insignia is on one side of their uniform (on the left side of the wearer's, or from our point of view on the right).

In Doctor Who, as you said it very easy to spot Peter Davison when they reverse a photo.. but sometimes the same can be said with the Bakers (Tom and Colin) as you can spot pins on their lapel are on the wrong lapel.

    Cheers,
    Louis

This is something that is very common with film, as their are people who couldn't be bothered to make sure that the negative is correctly orientated when laying out the publication. It's all about attention to detail.

    Hi!
I worked in a publishing house for two years and this thing is intentional. In a magazine the people on photos always look to the center of the magazine or the spine of the book. It sort of a basic guideline I learnt in vocational school.

Or do they do it on the internet and on tv as well? Because there it would make no sense.

    Regards,
    Anka

Yeah, having worked in publishing myself... I know that it is often intentional for the sake of composition. I have done it myself, but usually not with people since it is a little pet peeve of mine... In other words, if there is anything in the image that would give it away as reverse I will not do it. Generally, I just stay away from doing it unless there is no other way to make the image work.

    Cheers,
    Louis

That's nothing, I was once so desperate for footage on a documentary I was editing that I resorted to reversing a shot - which left me with a duck waddling backwards in the corner! So my perspective is that these little foibles probably do get noticed, but due to budget/time constraints they get get left in so obsessed fans like us can notice and comment on themWink
