I'm really in need of some help over at comicbookdb.com. In our quest to catalogue every single appearance of the Doctor in comics, we've hit a snag with this year's attempt on the main Doctor Who site to bring professional writers to bear on the Comic Maker.

What I need is someone with a British IP address to read the comics that are online and fill out synopses and add character appearances to each of the stories that have been written by the pros.

Registration is free at comicbook.db com, and editing an issue is as simple as clicking the button that says "Edit this issue" and then typing in the appropriate field.

Here's a link to the title that needs work.

Please note that we're not looking to catalogue EVERY comic that was made with the Comic Maker, just the ones that were written by professionals and announced on the main news feed.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Well I did join the BBC Comic maker a while back - but never got around to making one.

I've just joined ComicBookDB (as daveac)

I don't think I'm the right guy for this job but I have 'Martha's Big Day Out' onscreen.

But don't expect me to sort this out in any short time!

As Louis says 'one small typo and there's ten hours gone.

Please - other sharper-minded UK members have a go.

    Cheers, daveac

to fill out synopses and add character appearances to each of the stories

Well it was only 1 page so it was a one line synopses - but couldn't see a box to 'add character appearances' in.

There was just the Tenth Doctor & Martha Jones - so do I add their names in the synopses box?

EDIT - just noticed the Character boxes now - sorry.
They are already filled in for this comic

I'll look at the others later.

    Cheers, daveac

I've got this wrong - but now the 'EDIT' function seems to be missing.

I can EDIT the 'Issue' but no the story.

The synopsis I put is for 'Martha's Big Day Out - not Mad Martha.

    Will try to correct it.

SECOND EDIT- fixed the synopsis but I can't seem to add Noble, Donna (Donna Noble) to the characters!

    Cheers, daveac

Thanks for your help, Dave. By convention on comicbookdb.com, companion names are under just their first names, except (as with Martha) where that name is ambiguous to other comic fiction. So Donna is just "Donna" (until someone makes a case for that being ambiguous). Russell's choice of very bog-standard, old-fashioned first names for his companions has led to rather more conflict, because there are a lot of "Martha"s and "Rose"s, especially in material that originated before such names went largely out of fashion.

For a complete list of companion names, click on the name of ANY companion then click on the group Doctor Who companion. Or just click here. As you can see, the main reason for avoiding last names with companions is that it will sort alphabetically by LAST name, which frankly, a lot of people don't know for companions. I mean, how clear is it, really, that Turlough is a last name? And what last name do you reasonably give Nyssa? Or Polly? Another thing is that last names are generally indicative of comics-only companions

As for editing stories vs. issues, the reason you can't edit a story in this case is because the "issue" doesn't have multiple stories. What you've done on issue #6 is perfect. You just add the story synopsis to the issue synopsis field, with this title.

For a look at how to use the multiple stories functionality — which, again, doesn't apply to the Comic Maker comics — you can look here.

    I'll have another look Darth.

The synopsis was tricky in that I didn't want to give the story away - but needed to give it an outline.

Oh don't worry about giving anything away. The policy of the site is that we're a reference tool, and so the gloves are off. It's kinda hard to preserve spoilers regarding comics if you want to give accurate information, since a standard comic book device is that the person you think you're looking at isn't actually that person at all. There are frankly too many shapeshifters, possessions, body swaps, and, well, masks in comics to worry about spoiling. There's absolutely no way to accurately talk about a character like this without totally spoiling things.
