| I had never watched one episode of the Stargate franchise. But a week or two back I popped on my DVD of the original movie and I thought it held up pretty well. I still really enjoyed it. So I took advantage of my other means sources and watched the first few eps of SG-1. It wasn't great, but I found myself mostly enjoying it. I just noticed that Big Finish has started producing new audio adventures in the Stargate universe and I was just curious if anyone here has tried listening to them. Anyone, anyone, Bueller? |

That's part of the shame of it- the original movie was pretty good! By the 10th year or so of the series, they had revisited just about every plotline from Star Trek, and the series had long-since jumped the shark. |

Did you say "74,384,338 to 1 against"? That's my lucky number!

The Stargate audios are very much in the vane of talking books, similar to the BBC Audiobooks and the Big Finish Companion Chronicles. They are not full cast dramas, more like dramatic readings.
Stargate has been a very successful franchise, with the spinoff Atlantis returning to SciFi (US) in July. Its new episodes will actually air after Doctor Who starting July 11. The franchise has a devoted following.
I haven't listened to any of these yet, so I can't comment on the quality of the stories. |

| Am I alone on these forums for actually liking Star Gate? Although I agree the later series weren't so good, still they didn't frustrate me as much as the later series of Star Trek did. |

No, as I said in my initial post I actually found myself enjoying it. I didn't think it was great (my bar for greatness would probably be the new Galactica, but even it isn't consistantly great), but I'll probably keep watching it for a while. Will I buy any of it on DVD? No. But then, there is a lot of stuff I watch but don't buy on DVD, like Eureka. |

Not alone at all. I loved Stargate, perhaps the last few years were simply "comfort food," but there is something to be said for comfort good.
Some weeks I can take or leave Atlantis, however. |
