just a little heads up
Stephen Fry's Podgramme Episode 4 on itunes. (one of the reasons to have itunes!)
has stephen talk about the BBC and its funding/ history. and he talks about watching the first ep of Doctor Who.
Id sugest you listen if you have even a passing interest in the BBC.
taken from the transcript
The week before we moved, the BBC started a new drama, starring William Hartnell. An old man, whose name appeared to be Grandfather or the Doctor, had a police phone box of the kind we saw in the street all the time in those days. It turned out to be a magical and unimaginably wonderful time machine. My brother and I watched this drama in complete amazement. The first ever episode of Doctor Who. I had never been so excited in all my life. A whole week to wait to watch the next instalment. Never have seven days crawled so slowly by, for all that they involved a complicated house move from Buckinghamshire to Norfolk. A week later, in that new house, my brother and I turned on the good old television set in its new sitting room, ready to watch Episode 2. The TV had been damaged in transit and was never to work again. We missed that episode and nothing that has transpired in my life since has ever, or could ever, make up for that terrible, terrible disappointment. There is an empty space inside me that can never be filled. It is amazing neither of us were turned into psychopathic serial killers from that moment.

I was just about to post the same thing!
So as well as a Douglas Adams and a Mac fan, Stephen has a very soft spot for Doctor Who. I think I'd get on very well with him.
The direct iTunes link is here |

P.S. It is of course possible that this message is a trap. If it is I can deal with it. P.P.S. I'm leaving this note in case I can't!

Stephen Fry always strikes me as being a genuinely nice person. Or a nicely genuine person, I'm not sure. I'm also a subscriber to his podgrams, so thanks for the heads up, I'll listen to that next week.
Am I right in thinking that he wrote a script for New-Who a couple of seasons back, but RTD put it off as being too expensive to film? Or some such?
I'd better listen to the show, in case he mentions it... |

No offence to anybody out there but Stephen Fry is God as far as I'm concerned.
there is even a group on Facebook claiming the same thing.
If I died and faced my maker and it was Stephen Fry speaking to me in those dulcet tones, I'd be satisfaied.
Read his autobio: Moab is my washpot - honest, painful, funny and just what you would expect. |

Yes, and I had thought that it would resurface in another series, but as of yet, we haven't seen it... unless it turns up as one of the specials in 2009. Who knows? (Note even Who knows).
Cheers,
